What is it with Merc's n Bradford

I will not mention the consistent elephant in the room with regards to car traders in Bradford as its not pc...

Im not sure its just that but Bradford has more dodgey car traders per square mile than any other city I know including some very high end ones usually funded by drugs money

I drove through Bradford once. Stopped at some traffic lights and when they changed to green discovered that my car was on bricks.

:wallbash:

Joking, of course, but I have been warned about the gangs operating in Bradford that tempt you with cars that seem ludicrously cheap. When you arrive to view the car, they mug you and take your cash. Just check out Autotrader and you can spot the nearly new, and extremely cheap, cars, with excuses such as, 'Going cheap due to getting company car', or ,'Marriage split forces sale of pride and joy', all designed to make you feel you are getting a bargain.

You will also notice that these ads are private, and when you speak to someone, they insist that the car will definitely be sold, so make sure you bring the asking price in cash with you to secure the deal. They also agree to meet you at their garage, which will usually be a garage block, obviously nowhere near where they actually live. It will also probably be dark, as they work all day and are only available in the evenings to do the deal.

Car buyers are easy pickings for these gangs, as they know we love our vehicles.

Next day, I headed off to view a "mint" Toyota Celica GT4. I will assume that "mint in Gujarat means "smashed to bits then stuck together with gaffer tape and tie wraps?" In a moment of almost comedy gold. I had to point how I knew that the GT 4 Badge on the back was indeed the only bit of the car that came from a GT4. This was evident not just from the lack of a GT 4 body shell? A quick glance at the Moped Engine under the "vent less" bonnet confirmed any lingering doubts.

For those who are thinking - Why go to look at the car unseen? I didn't!!

The car was correctly advertised with photo's and a description to match the photo's. On arrival it was clear that the ad was copied from somebody else's ad. The following day I found who's ad had been copied when I arrived in Derby to look at another GT4. The penny dropped who's ad it was. I bought the Derby car.

The guys in Bradford were not happy at me not wanting to buy their car. I decided on a rapid exit. There was a mob of them and they were starting to cut up rough, being abusive etc. The favourite phrase employed was "white faggott";ˆ)

OK, so who do they sell they cars to? To each other? Surely their fellow Bradfordians wouldn't go anywhere near them.... do people actually travel to Bradford from all over the UK with the specific intention of buying a sh1tty car...?

Well if it helps add balance... I went to view a C32 Wagon in Sheffield (a Traders car). I had paid a £250 deposit on the basis of a telephone call, in which the guy sounded knowledgeable and honest. WRONG!!

Got their at the agreed time, to be told "he's not here he's playing golf, the car is over there". It was sandwiched between two cars, so you could not see up the sides let alone get in it. They refused to move the other cars. I waited at the dealers for two hours for the seller to get back - he didn't, despite repeated telephone calls to assure me has on his way. Finally left then spent months trying to retrieve my deposit.

I later learned (legal letters). He was from........... Bradford. Doh.

I'll give an example of Bradford tactics, although I couldn't prove it and the pics I questioned have since been taken off I held fire on this~ http://www.greenwoodmotorsltd.co.uk/used-MERCEDES-BENZ-C%20CLASS-Bradford-Yorkshire-835501 They've had it ages now, if you look closely at the rear the badges are out of alignment (pointed out by our Stu) possibly meaning it had some spray work to the boot and the badges weren't put back on in the right place. the since removed pics of the engine bay, a few engine parts had white numbers written on them? I asked what was with the numbers written on the parts in the bay, I was told it was from an AA check Do those checks result in the checker writing on car parts? I didn't ask any more questions, just didn't feel right. The white numbers have been cleaned off partly on the engine bay photo after I enquired about them

The right hand exhaust trims stick up further than the left ones as well!

So where's the balance...? :D

Mark, when you want to pay cash for heavy metal, Bradford is where you can go.

Where do they get all these dodgy cars from?

Who are 'they'?

I bought a lovely RS4 from a private seller in Bradford a few years ago, theres no way I'd buy from any of the dealers though. It's certainly not somewhere I'd hurry back to.

I always wonder if the cars are decent, if a trustworthy private seller from out of town sold one to a dealer in Bradford then surely the car would be okay?

I've got to the end of the two pages of this conversation, and I'm absolutely laughing my head off at how everyone has avoided just saying it. Obviously, I myself need to tread carefully being part of the left wing creation that is 'tolerant Britain' where freedom of speech only applies to certain people, so I'll put it like this...

What is it with Merc's n Bradford

Well. I can't answer that question, but I can post below a completely unrelated photograph from a famous TV show to get you thinking...

Now you're just being offensive, what's wrong with being Pakistani?

OK, I get it. I will never buy a car in Bradford. Fine.

In fact the only think I knew about Bradford up to now is that George Galloway won his MP seat there in 2012 then lost it in 2015. But that's not really related to the car trade anyway....

George Galloway is a horrible, horrible human being

I did once have a rather good curry in Bradford. Never been back, though. Although the tales of lesbian cat fights does pique my interest for a revisit.

Are the curries good in Bradford in general then?
The only currys I get are those cooked by my mum. She's from New Delhi though rather than from Bradford...

I wonder if George Galloway can cook a good curry...
