What kind of person would buy this?

I don't really get it either- My personal opinion of this, like the M3 convertible (No comparison in performance I know) is that the makers have simply disregarded all of the performance considerations of the original hardtop, just so someone can pose in a car that "beats" the others.

If you want an ultimate performance car, fine- Buy the coupe. But if you want something to cruise and pose in- Buy a droptop Bentley?!

I certainly wouldn't want to see 190mph in it!!

I rather like it, apart from the rear spoiler (which I'm sure is functional rather than cosmetic). Pretty pointless though as the back seat of a convertible is not a nice place to be at high speed! As a kid I wore a leather flying helmet and goggles in the back of my grandfather's Jaguar XK 150S :D

Well I guess in a car like that it's completely impossible to look uncool!

He was an ex racing driver ... I remember seeing an indicated 130 mph on the M1 - quite drafty at that speed :D

My grandad had a brown Escort MK2 and an Allegro, I don't know about top speed but that thing was like s**t on a shovel!!!

I'm guessing the Jag's not in the family anymore?

Must have been a VERY slippery shovel to make either of those move quickly.

No no, it was like s**t ON a shovel! :)

Sadly not, it went to the Heritage Motor Museum at Gaydon. Had the numberplate 'S150' on it, too.

Actually in keeping with the original post and your Grandads Jag its funny how, in the search for better performance cars used to become even better looking (e.g Jag D type) which in turn was passed onto the production models but nowadays cars replicating their racing siblings seem to be less sexy than the production models on which they are based.

Has Olly not seen this thread ?
That's his dream car
