What max mileage can i get out of my W211?

When did he get the new autobox. How much did it cost him? Did he change the ATF etc when he should have to preserve the box?

He had it done himself. It cost him £1300 and it is awful.

He never changed the atf. It went at 400k.

Rarely services? and he has had no major problems?

What year is the car?

2003 I think.

The last sevice he had was 50k overdue:eek: . It is amazing how the thing still runs.

He is a very tight man indeed.

Penny wise pound foolish.

Every £1 spent on servicing saves £10 in repairs.

Don't tell recycled, but he actually did rather well with that gearbox life on the original fill.

Realistically? Its an 03 plate E320 CDi (No valeo). Full service history and its done 70k miles already.

I know build quality was not the best with the 03 W211's, but no major issues came to light in its history. Although a heat valve was replaced i think during its service.

Looking at the posts by people who own W124's, W202's etc. It seems the cars are bombproof apart from the odd rust issue here and there.

Can a W211 last for say 20 years, if it used on a daily basis?

Not that i plan to keep it that long!
I used to be a Paramedic and we had the OM642 in the sprinters and those engines were hammered. They would go from cold to very high revs all their working life. Many ambulances went to auction with 550.000 miles on the clock and had issues what so ever. I think Mercedes is still a high quality brand but they need to be respected and properly serviced. My W211 is nearly 160 k and nothing really has gone wrong in the last 10 years. The only problem is they are quite complex electrically, and also the SBC pump. Mine is still going strong at 18 years and I don't see her going anywhere yet. We used to have Peugeot, Renault ambulances also and they were always going wrong. They cant hold a candle up to a Mercedes. Many ambulance services have gone over to Peugeot because the sprinters are too expensive, the only trust that still buys new sprinters is London Ambulance

That's pretty impressive. I suppose that the fleet was religiously serviced to the manufacturer's specifications, which helped to counter some of ill effects of the harsh use.

Too many people cut corners with servicing these days...

Anold thread gets revived. I came to the W220 and W210 from SAAB and Jaguar, back in the day, after lots of German airport taxi runs at terrifying high speeds. I made a point of glancing at the odometers, and they were usually in the 200 - 400k range, and you'd never be able to tell from the interior or the ride quality.

Obviously time's moved on, but I still see well maintained Mercedes doing high mileages "IF" they've been maintained. The problem is that so many skimp on maintaining fluids or suspension.
