I've been looking at a few online, decided to save a bit of money and get the coupe with things how they are at the moment, are they ok with 100k-120k miles on if they have full and up to date service history?, is about £3k an acceptable price to pay for a W reg 320 in silver with full history?.
Thanks in advance

I imagine they should be ok, condition wise, but £3k for a 120k mile CLK320 is a bloody rip off as far as i'm concerned.

clk quality on the earliest model was dodgy... i wouldnt touch it with a barge poll with such high mileage.. pay a lil more for a low mileage (say 40-60k) and the trim bits should hold tight for a few more years.

My SLK is a 1998 model, and now has 103k miles and the quality of the car inside is terrible.. looks like a bomb went of on it.. The only upside is the car otherwise holds the road very well and is so heavy for the engines, that is just feels like a rock, though it isnt. In terms of your CLK, id say hold back, or email me some details of what you are looking for and i can advise..

Im not a dealer, just an enthusiast, and have family friends with various CLK models, and all have complaints, so generally i think i know a bit of what to look for and what not etc..

3K for a clk with 120K miles I would think would be pretty shoddy?

That sounds cheap and at that age / millage what bills are round the corner.

I'm all for buying a nice car but I would save more and buy one with half that millage and probably get a much better car.

the 3K one you could be throwing money at it every other month whereas a 50K miles one could go for a year with just a service.

Its easier said than done and you could buy a duff much never version you just never know with cars. I would tend to hold out for a new / lower millage one though.

I bought a 320 cabrio with 156k miles on it , and it was fine ...

Service history is the key . A 3.2 litre engine is relatively unstressed lugging a CLK around , so should go for at least 250k if looked after.

Only problem i had with mine was the engine mounts , other than that , sweet as a nut .

Don't let mileage put you off , look for whether it looks like it has been cared for.

Very TRUE !!

I think most people are put off with cars over 100k (I know I'm guilty) but with a 3.2 V6 and auto it is hard really to stress the engine.. So very valid point.

Nothing wrong with the early ones mine is a 1998 CLK with Brabus K1 tuning kit and is Immaculate 70,000 miles full history and not a blemish, a few little cosmetic things I had to do but nothing Major, the CLK face lift cars was when they changed the paint spec and on the early ones they did not get it right leading to rust, for £3k you should get somehting mint

Thanks everyone, so the general view is £3k is too much for one?, it is from a dealership and is advertised at £3495, I asked if he could come down on the price and he agreed, the ones on Autotrader at the moment seem to be asking for more and I thought it wasn't bad value.I do need a car pretty urgently though, if anyone on here knows of a good CLK in that price range please let me know, Auto is a must either a 230K or 320 with leather, would prefer a facelift one but is not essential am not too fussy about colour but am not keen or greens and reds, silver, black, dark blue or light blue is fine, ideally need to find something this weekend.
Thanks everyone for the advice.

Hi, not sure how you messgae your e mail details across on here, I put a discription of what kind of CLK I was looking for in my previous post, would really appreciate any advice.

Mileage is a very misleading indicator of a car's condition.

I'd be happier with a car that had done 120,000 miles on motorways than 60,000 around town.

I once had a F reg F**d Gr***da - bought 2 yrs old with 100,000 miles, it ran faultlessly for me over the next 6 years and only needed a new exhaust, a battery and servicing.

It was replaced by a N reg M***eo of similar mileage, that performed equally well and is still seen around town today!

I shall not mention the A***in Ma***ro bought with 26,000 miles and all the trouble I had with that..... I guess it was my fault for choosing anything from BL.

The one I went to look at today was an absolute dog, worn drivers seat, worn steering wheel, rust bubbles, mayo under the oil filler cap and when it did start(it had run out of petrol) it was blowing blue smoke, I made my excuses and left, finding a decent and reasonably priced CLK seems to be a minefield!!.
