What the hell

Compare the efforts , money and manpower put into enforcing every single piece of motoring legislation with the efforts put in to halting this.

weeks after the Crown court trial, another Warrington resident was beaten to an inch of their lives for objecting to swearing youths hanging around his front gate.

Or we could pass laws a bit like the US, where private property means that and you can use deadly force (erhmmm a Colt .45) if you see fit. Not get sued for burglar slipping on wet floor while trying to steal your silverware.

A Drone has been flying around here since 2006 december.
Initially it was to deal with crimes and yobs and the usual if you have nothing to hide (yawn).
I see it has ben put to more useful things
:) Is this the drone you are talking about?

Look how it is being blown about and note how it can only 'fly' over open spaces and park-land. It sounds noisey and is described as overt.

Looking at what they are doing, it looks like they load a film into the drone, shoot the footage and then recover the model to reclaim the tape?

John

They have deliberately released this footage in order that people like yourself gain the impression it's not that good. Believe me, I have seen images from it in private and the results are pretty scary.

Very soon it will be impossible to get any job with out a CRB check and I bet they will inc political beliefs, union activity and even a review of what you post on internet forums.
We report everything you post Dave but the lazy, unresponsive feds haven't done anything about it yet! What are we paying them for eh?! ;) :p

bomb, convoy, brown, motorists front of sthelens

that should give GCHQ something to get their teeth in to.

I would love to see the thing flying over our towns in anything like a strong breeze with sufficient equipment to carry out genuine surveillance. What equipment operates your example, can it be jammed and can it be operated away from line of sight?

What we see on the Discovery channel is one thing but in a real life situation the thing has to be big enough to carry sophisticated equipment that cannot be monitored or jammed and work away from line of sight!

The toys you are discussing are just that. They carry a camera that takes pictures! Bill is the model man, but surely something only weighing 5.3Ib with a 5ft wingspan and flying at 25mph will be effected by the wind? The higher it goes the windier it gets and with something that light will it require line of sight operation? What happens if it goes out of control over a city? It is a toy and these things have an awful reputation for being an accident waiting to happen.

I fully accept that model helicopters can carry video equipment but that is not what folks are discussing. we are talking about a spy in the sky that can remain flying for many hours and be capable of sending a live stabilised video link back to its base, plus fly in all types of weather.

I'll try again. It is being used already in the US . You can search yourself and find the article . They have been using a variation of this contraption to film and photo drug deals and have obtained sufficient evidence to obtain a conviction. Having seen some of the video equipment that is available to Joe Rakyat, I expect that police and military have stuff that is really pretty impressive.

I'm not able to give you details of what the US are using, but one suspects that they might keep it secret so that people on the internet cannot jam it using a pifco hairdryer and a coathanger.

Again, one suspects that they have done their homework with regard to safety. Everything flying is affected by the wind, I speak from light aircraft and balloon experience.

Re - weather, sell drugs in a hurricane and you'll be OK.

You think that is a joke however I can assure you that everything on this website is trawled for keywords and phrases.:D

You can now get a CRIMINAL record for rubbish. see here

And we have nothing to worry about!! this country is suffering a death by a thousand cuts; each one on its own provokes nothing but apathy. taken altogether they are devastating to the public.

Bit more to this than than reported (I know the guy). He is supposed to be entitled to a larger wheelie bin(about 25%), as he has three kids, but the council won't give him one, as one of the kids is not resident full time, he only has partial custody. He has been arguing with Copeland council, and rather suspects this is an attempt 'nail' him for not taking No for an answer.

I do rather wonder if the council could be prosecuted for the trail of litter they leave behind the rubbish wagons....

Can't you just buy an additional bin? used to be able to years back.

You mean they actually survey his household to see what his bin size should be? I wonder what kind of idiot decided that it was actually worth while .

Well he will know for the future, sling the rubbish over next door's fence.

Hello people. I have flown r/c models for nearly 35 years, including a spell of professional aerial photography (still).

To read & recognise number plates from a UAV at a range of 500+ feet is not trivial. You're talking about high quality optics on a stabilised mount. Plus obviously a downlink, power supply etc. The bulk and weight would require a sizeable airframe. The angles involved in doing this from the air would make it technically far more difficult than ground-based ANPR.

Shooting simple video is a totally different proposition and can be done cheaply and easily nowadays with just about any small electric powered model aircraft (using components readily available from Maplin etc.). This is the basis for most small UAVs you see publicised.

From the legal point of view all model aircraft / UAVs are covered by articles 73 & 74 of the Air Navigation Order. These make it an offence to "recklessly or negligently cause or permit an aircraft to endanger any person or property". There are also CAA guidelines for operation contained in CAP 658 which, although not legal requirements, provide a guide to what would be considered "reasonable practice" in the event of a prosecution under the ANO.

Article 98 of the ANO imposes further specific restrictions on models weighing between 7 and 20 kg. Above 20kg models are considered as "aircraft" by the CAA and are subject to even stricter controls.

Operating a UAV over a densely populated area is not something that would be undertaken lightly. A weight of even half a pound falling from a couple of hundred feet is going to kill anyone it hits, and would certainly go through a car windscreen. There is simply no way this is going to be used to control speeding when you can simply bolt a camera to a bridge or pole by the side of the road instead for zero risk and a fraction of the cost.

Do you really think plod is going to worry about whether or not its breaking CAA rules ? They have targets to reach and will stop at nothing to reach them. Unreached targets cost police forces a lot of lost govt money.

Perhaps we should use these Skygats to monitor the movements of our politicains and see how they are spending their expenses!!!

Yet the govt have no problem filming its citizens 24/7 through one of the largest CCTV networks in the developed world.

They certainly would if one fell on a busy road, school playground, etc. from 500'.

Bottom line though is that fixed roadside video/still cameras plus ANPR in patrol cars will be far more cost-effective for motoring offences.

Well, you could buy another bin, but they wouldn't empty it, and yes, you do have to prove you multiple off spring!

And yes, Copeland is a grubby place, full of tossed rubbish...

Good God, is this is what it really has come to? When we were at home my Mum purchased an additional bin as the standard one wasn't enough in our throwaway society. Now we have all left, guess what ? she only puts the one half full bin out - wow, I for one could never have worked that one out for myself.

This is a clear message to those who don't care as much as some of us to just stick a couple of bags in the back of the car and take them to dingly dell, rather than run the risk of some pathetic little person photo the bin with the lid up 100mm. I could understand all this fuss and comment if he had been caught fly tipping or leaving rubbish to fly around his local area, but this does not seem to be the case.

Fly tipping:mad::mad::mad: there is nothing worse in my view
