Any ideas what those cameras for now being installed with huge posts on one side of the road?

Are they speed or low emission or ANPR?

They are average speed cameras. When they go live in the summer they will run from Dagenham to Canning Town and the speed limit will be increased to 50 from the current 40. They are only being tested for now and thats only on a short stretch between The Ship and Shovel pub and the Beckton roundabout. I am enjoying my last days of doing 70miles on the road before the cameras go live.

70! :eek:

Watch out there are unmarked Mondeos along this stretch of road.

Eveybody seemed to be doing at least 50mph instead of 40.

Try going over 30 at the entrance to the Limehouse tunnel, dead accurate and I guarantee you will get flashed.

So it will be a boring below 50 all the way to Limehouse tunnel from Dagenham in future.

You can say that but not even policemen or OAPs do 40 on that stretch of the Road. It is a 3 lane road and even 4 lanes in some places. I drive on that road daily and I rarely see any driver doing 40 on the road apart from out of towners. Most people do between 55 and 60 and the brave ones like me go up to 70. Just because the speed limit is 40 doesnt mean it is a sensible limit to drive at. If it was I doubt they would be increasing the limit to 50.

Limehouse is dead on 30. 31 and you are clocked. I have used this road for too long and take evrey precaution. I use my rear view mirror a lot and alway slow down to the (dont ask any questions just obey the government) limt when I get to slip roads.

I hate this piece of road (which i too drive very often) because of idiots doing 70, often on the inside ....

The A13 has one of the highest accident rates of any major road in London, with around a fifth more accidents than the average

Transport for London: A13 has seen over 500 rta's within 7.5 miles between 2006 and 2008, which resulted in 3 deaths and 34 serious injuries. Half of these accidents have been attributed to drivers speeding along the flat, straight dual carriageway, which currently has a 40 mph speed limit in force

the stretch just out of Canary Wharf has a ridiculous speed limit -- 30mph -- increasing to 40mph :: this is 3 or 4 lane carriageway.

No wonder no one pays any attention.

It makes the law an ass.

Increasing it to 50mph with average speed check is better, but still nuts on a 3 or lane carriageway.

The 40 speed limit is far too low in my opinion. 50 is adequate but in some places such as just after the Beckton flyover 60-70 wouldnt be to ridiculous. At least with the average speed checks it will stop people doing unbelievable speeds such as 100 which i see on a daily basis.

Let have a vote and forward it to Boris whether this should be 70 not 40 or 50?

No camera will flash at 31 mph, they are all set to allow for speedo variance etc, as a conviction COULD NOT be sought at 31mph and no vaience built in. On average a 30 mph cam wont go off until above 35. SPECS are set quite slack and as ALL speedo's are set to over-read setting your cruise control to 58 mph in a 50 specs zone is no problem at all.

Just for info ;)

, who are these people ? are they
completely stupid :confused:
driving stolen cars :confused::confused:
or false numberplates :confused::confused::confused:

I know, they belt past well over 70, see the yellow cams then emergency brake!!! does make me chuckle that some people can't comprehend the word 'average' lol.

I am willing to drive to A13 to witness your fest.:bannana:

You are not comparing me to Joyriders are you? I have never been flashed by a Gatso and have a completely clean Drivers license. I have also only had 5 parking tickets all my life with one minor accident. All this in 15 years of driving. So I am better than your average driver.

On my way back from work today at about 1345 I did an experiment on the A13 between Canning Town and Beckton. I sat in the middle lane doing 50 (There is no way you can do 40 on that road, it will look like your car was faulty) and every car went past me. I think I only went past one car and it was exiting at a slip road. Trucks to my left were obviously going over 50 cos they just breezed past me and the cars to my right must have been averaging 60MPH cos they went past and soon disappeared from view.

On most roads, majority of drivers stick to the speed limit or just above it. There is a good reason why majority of drivers on this stretch of the A13 think it is alright to break the speed limit by more than 15MPH. It is beacuse the set limit is ridiculously low.

Its my day off on wednesday, Maybe I,ll do a video of me doing 40 on that stretch of road and you can see for yourself how many people are doing 40 or anything near it.

Good of you to set an example, I hope all the other drivers will follow your lead.:bannana::thumb:
