What those cameras on A13 near Barking/Dagenham?

Are the Gatso speed cameras along A13 and the average speed cameras all switched off?

Anyone got a ticket with the average speed cameras between junctions 28 and 29 on the M25? Is this bluff or real?

I used to go through ones on the M25 at speeds between 90 and 100 MPH and on the one on the M1 roadworks at speeds of over 70MPH and I never recieved any tickets. I did this when I didnt know what purpose those cameras served (say 3 years ago) but now I just obey the speed limit. I dont want to get any silly points.

Average speed cams

seems this thread has made me ask a question have been thinking about for ages!!! Has ANYONE been done for speeding through ave cameras??? never heard of anyone who had so have been wondering for some time, no intention of using info for anything illegal, lol

Pappilo is willing to try and let us know.

He did it and no ticket so a bluff else it will in the media 1,000 violated and getting tickets in the first hour.

Going to use the A13 again this weekend.

Can you confirm pappilo whether this is live yet? Summer almost over.

@ Fred

Like I said in my post above I used to go to Luton a lot some years back and used to do about 70-80MPH through the roadworks and always wondered why others were driving at ridiculously low speeds and I never got a ticket. I have also gone through the fixed ones near Heathrow at 100MPH and didnt get no tickets

@ Jason

Late I know but cameras are still 'under test'

I asked because someone was saying tickets were issued exceeding the average speed camera around A13.

Where did you get the info that the speed limit is going to raise from 40 to 50mph?

Maybe my ticket is in the post then and there must be thousands of others expecting theirs as well cos everyone breaks the speed limit on that stretch. Stiill did last night and will do again tonight.

Maybe the person got a speeding ticket from one of those fixed cameras still in operation on that stretch as I highly doubt you can get a ticket from cameras that clearly state they are still under test.

Notorious? I find the most convenient and quickest way to get to central London. It beats A12 or M11. The first prototype. Maybe they should change it to more appropriate name other than A13. Maybe it notorious is because of the cemetery past Dagenham.

The call for more average speed cameras comes days after London Mayor Boris Johnson announced the devices would be introduced on the A13 in East London.

Hi all
Am new to the club but thought I would post an update.
According to the London Camera safety website, the cameras on the A13 are due to go live at the end of the year.
A lot of road signs have been erected, however a good number of them show 40 on them, so unless these are going to be changed, then I have a horrible feeling that alot of the ropad will remain at 40 limit instead of the promised rise to 50, although I could be wrong.

I live in Purfleet, right on the A13 but originally from London. I have been using the A13 for well over a decade. Anywhere from Dagenham eastwards is fine, but ondon bound is awful.

Here are my reasons why.

1. Limit too low.
2. Significant proportion of the local population are either new to driving in the UK, and show not be driving at all for a number of reasons.
3. Too much road sign clutter.
4. Too much speed limit variance.

I think the 70 limit should be extended to where the speed camera is, near the petrol garage, the 50 all the way to the tunnels, then 30 through East London.

My tuppence worth.

I concur with your observations, I am in Purfleet also

A thought. As the cameras are still on test and all funding for them has (I think) been cut we might be lucky and they don't ever come into operation? Sure other people will know about them than just me?

I agree with other posters here - the standard of driving is like wacky races on acid....

Hi folks
Some news for you all, I emailed London safety camera partnership and the response was as follows: -
"Please note that enforcement using the average speed cameras is planned to commence from 31 January 2011"
So now you all know......
