Were the seats murdered-in-cold-blood colour? I know the shade,My dad had one of these in the 80s and as a nipper - my memories of them are the strange flat horizontal speedometer which read up to 100, the vinyl (I think) dark red seats which burnt the back of your legs in Summer if you wore shorts and the really quite noisy gearbox which made a loud whirring as you changed down.

1959 Ford Popular, ESB 532, cost £10 in 1968, sold 4 months later for £60.
All these modern cars around...mine was a 1954 Ford Pop (like in pic, same colour), nowhere near as swish as yours Duncan...
If I remember correctly, I paid £12 for it in the mid 60s (well it was in good nick!). I passed my test in it, I was taught by my dad, who also taught me to maintain it.
I was very proud of that car because none of my mates had any car at all (I was very popular). Not much of a bird puller, that didn't happen until a Spitfire came on the scene - women, doggghh! Other cars I moved on to included a Ford Anglia 105, a Hillman Husky and a Singer Vogue.
Those were the days...
MG Metro (AMV 439Y), much maligned by the motoring press but I loved it.
