What would cause these faults?

Is there a single failure that would cause the following (on my W140):

1. No speedo
2. Dashboard lights for BAS/ASR, ABS, Brake Pad Worn indicator and Parking Brake all on.
3. No power steering
4. Transmission will not shift out of 2nd gear (and starts in 2nd)
5. No cruise control (obviously...?!)

Thanks in advance!

do you get an esp failure or not available message? and the car will not start?

I dont think the car has ESP. But it does start and drive (if you can call 2nd gear driving...!)

Thanks!

Duff Voltage Regulator/Alternator maybe. All that clever electronic kit needs a steady voltage input or it goes haywire.

Maybe worth checking the fuses under the bonnet and in the boot.

Does the car fail to start from time to time?

Not so far - but I am intruigued mate! What are you thinking it might be??

Thanks!

Would hate to put you in the wrong direction but my car had exactly the same faults but it also had esp not available and something else.

I found out that the steering angle sensor was bggered and needed replacing at a cost of around £450.

This is a common fault but im not sure if this featured on your mb? hope its not! but they are exactly the same sypmtoms as mine except mine woudl not start once the message popped up. A day later it would be ok until the faults repeated themselves and my car would not start again.

Hope this is of use! but best get it on star to confirm.

Thanks for all the info chaps. Apparently the switch pack underneath the transmission gate has become disconnected and thats whats causing it.

Dont ask... dont ask....
:D
