What is it worth?

£6.5K to £7.5K ?

According to Wisebuyers guide, http://www.wisebuyers.co.uk/

a bit less:

Mercedes E Class (2002-)
E240 4Dr Saloon 2.6 V6 Classic Auto (2004/54)
Average Mileage: 30,000
Price New: £30,025
Insurance Group: 15 Other Cars in Insurance Group
These valuations are based on thousands of used car prices. WiseBuyer's pricing experts research valuations at dealers, auctions and private sales.

Car valuation adjusted for 98,000 miles
Retail: £4,873 The valuations quoted are prices you should aim to pay for a used car, not the advertised price. You should adjust your valuation to allow for extras that were not standard specification.

Private Good: £4,043
Private Average: £3,283
Private Poor: £2,823
Part Exchange: £3,663
Trade: £3,433

Someone on the inside reckons it can be had for £5200.

Most likely would have full MB history as diplomat owned

yep i agree, all these buyers price guides are rubbish.

have a look on autotrader/ebay and see what others are selling for for the right prices....

suspect they would value any W124 multivalve diesel at about £500 ???? easily sell them for £1.5k onwards without problem.

they were also way out with my 7 series. sold mine 5k over what they said it was worth.

UPDATE

Actually got to view the car today. A nice car all in all but a few things need attention.

Its definately a classic model in black with cream leather, and mb history:

1. Being a diplomat car it has a flag pole in the body like

http://www.flagpoles.se/res/Magneticcarflagpole/bilder2008025redigerad4.jpg

2. rip in leather on drivers seat. Side on the base, not on a seam.
3. dent in n/s/r quarter
4. 2 dents in o/s/r door
5. Looks like bumper has come off the rail on o/s/r

Now the dents will probably pull out and the bumper should be ok.

What could I expect from a private sale?

Its a sealed bid I have to submit for it, so need info as to what to bid

Thanks all
