Hi what it is my car has a private reg on and it was bought like this 2nd hand

Now I want to see the private reg that's on there

Is there a way of finding out what the old reg was before private one was put on ??

And is there a cost to do so??

A quick HPI check (£19.99 from https://www.hpicheck.com/) on the car will show you it's previous registration mark/marks.

When you put your private registration on another car, or move it onto a retention certificate, DVLA will advise you of your new registration mark.

Most of the time it's the one that came off the car for the private mark to go on, in some occasions, the previous seller may have sold the previous registration number to someone else because it may have been relevant to their initials maybe.

To move the registration to another car it's £80, to transfer the number onto retention it's £105 for a year, £130 for 2 years and £155 for 3.

If it's had much in the way of main dealer servicing, they'll probably be able to tell you.

Depending on it's age, do you not have any old MOT's, Service Book, Bills, Tax discs?

MOT history, assuming it has one and the personalised plate wasn't fitted before it's first MOT, can be checked online at the DVLA website. If I remember correctly you need either the current MOT number or the V5 Document Reference Number. (11 digit number on the front).
