Driving along today I saw a DVLA ANPR van with cameras mounted on each corner. Following the van was a DVLA lorry with hiab crane.
On the back of the lorry was a very nice condition M reg Rover 214/6 which was definately being taken to the scrap yard as the lorry turned off into the yard.

What cars has anyone seen towed due to no tax/insurance?

Saw a brand new silver Carrera 4 lifted onto the back of a HIAB on Hampton Court Road the other day.....

The plod were stopping people with out of date tax and this chap obviously didn't have any .....

Oh how i giggled ..... shortly before swerving to avoid the bus that pulled out of the bus lane in front of me !!

I have not seen any vehicles being towed away yet but think that it is great that the DVLA APNR technology is able to catch those uninsured/taxed/un-MOT'd vehicles on the road side. However, a friend of mine spotted a sting operation in action and it was mainly the bangers being pulled over...

But there are still a lot of idiots out there nonetheless who drive "decent" cars without insurance/tax/MOT etc. and deserve to have their vehicles impounded. PS. I bet that when the vehicles are lifted off the ground with a crane or low loader no care is taken in the process by the operator...;)

How I would love these vehicles to park close to areas where stainless steel sided caravans have taken up residence! There will be any number of very nice vehicles, all without tax, insurance etc!

This one was lifted perfectly using clamps under the wheels but I've seen a Sierra lifted by the wheelarches, now that's messy.

Anyone have any idea what the weight specs for the cranes they use in London are?

Saw one trying to shift an S-class a few years back (which it later transpired was armoured), and it was struggling, the lorry was listing badly.

I saw a very smart looking Beryl Blue 124 coupe in a scrapyard that had been impounded for having no tax and had a destruction order on it :(

Talking of recovery trucks straining , here's a little story told in pictures ...

Beautiful looking powder blue DB4 on the back of HAIB in Victoria about 2 months ago. Don't know why it was lifted. D reg I think but, like Howard, at one point became so entranced with this lovely car that I followed it instead of the route I was meant to be on! Much shouting from the passenger seat!

Pontoneer, that was brilliant, where was it? :bannana:

Looks like Southern Ireland from the lorry's numberplate.

I think we first saw these pictures last year, but if you want full details

Sadly it is another spoof picture

Aah.

I was about to say that he should have extended his outriggers.

:)

In the 4th picture the chap in the yellow fluoro jacket hitting the water just this side of the crance arm is lucky he's not dead .....

I saw a broken down Ferrari 360 being put on the back of a truck a couple of years back - just as I was hooning past in my 'unreliable' TVR Chimaera :D

I found these on the net a couple of years back , knew it was Ireland but that was all . I'm sure the pictures in my posting were genuine , but the 'extra' ones on John's link clearly are poor Photoshop jobs .

Must have been highly embarrasing for the first recovery operator !

That Irish incident was circulating as a video some time back (the bit where the red truck rolls off the quayside).
