Hi All

I have been toying with the idea of changing my wheels for some time but since I have recently had the renntech v2 lowering module fitted I just think I need some 19's for it to look right (unless Savman gets rid of his 18" ATS's racelights which somehow look like 19's!!?).

Anyway I keep looking at the wheels on this thread on the mbworld.org site in the states.
Impromptu Photoshoot W211 E55 - MBWorld.org Forums

The saloon E55 has 19" rotiforms which I think look great but also the estate looks really good too.

I think the estate has these fitted AMG alloy wheels | Genuine new 19" AMG VI | fits Mercedes E Class Estate S211 | Alloy Wheels Direct Ltd.
I generally do not like wheels fitted to cars that are from later generations as somehow they don't look right but maybe this is the exception as I think this estate really looks good.

So what do you all think?

Hi Simon,

If you're looking at staying OEM and you're looking at AMG wheels then you can't go wrong with a set of either the 19" CLS AMG wheels or the 19" AMG Split rims like ALPS has on his.

Just my thoughts :-)

Hi David

In most ways I would prefer to stay with OEM other than the sheer weight of most of the wheels. A set of CLS wheels would have probably been my obvious choice until I saw these ones on this estate. The split rims Alps has on his look great but I bet they are pretty heavy (well they look like they are at least!).

BTW - I saw the pics of your car with your new wheels. I think they look great and I like them in black, although a dark titanium would probably be a little less obvious.

Both wheels look great.

But I tend to like something alittle different from the norm, so I'd probably go with some aftermarket wheels.

Picking wheels is always hard and, although it's good to get opinions, it always boils down to personal taste. Or at least it should do!
So it's important to get wheels that you personally really like.

19's are definitely the way forward. Which wheels you go for will be down to you.

Personally, I've always liked silver or brushed wheels with polished lips. Wide wheels for the rears. Multi spokes or at least more than 5 spokes.

Can't go wrong with a set of forged, if you can. Or at least wheels you don't see often.

The wheels on the E55 look nice, they just don't look nice on a W211. The hard edged more contemporary look of the wheels makes the curvy body look really old.

The ones on the S211 on the hand make a nice combo and you can't beat the effect of a big five spoke when moving slowly.

Moving slowly!!!! I was about to say that rarely happens but then thats not true for me as I'm often stuck in London traffic averaging 7mph and similar mpg

So you like the ones shown on the estate then. I was just thinking if they look good on his they should look good on mine too, although that car is a better colour, as mine is just boring old silver!

The CLS wheels are common, see them every day. The other ones are nicer and will look different to the norm. People would see your car and say "that E Class has got CLS wheels on it"

The other wheels look abit like M3 CSL wheels which make the E46 BMW look something special :thumb:

They aren't CLS wheels, they are AMG III wheels, fitted to E Class, S Class amongst others.

Mine had them as 18's from the factory and as 19's from a CLS, which I fitted because of the wider track, due to the 25f/28r ET.

Oooh, I do like this font :thumb:.

Exactly :) More people look at a car when it's rolling along in traffic, be it in other cars or pedestrians, than any other time. At speed they're all a silver blur, or whatever colour, and parked they're usually tucked away somewhere so the only person who stands back and looks at a stationery wheel is you or people on forums like this where you post pictures for everyone to scrutinise.

At low speed a big five spoke has a sort of propeller swooshing effect that catches peoples eyes and has some strange sense of latent speed to it, a bit like the slow mo racing shots on the telly. Obviously it could just be me that thinks this :bannana:

When people say don't do that everybody does it or everyone will think you've done this or that, bear in mind "everybody" is a miniscule proportion of the population and still a very small percentage of people who appreciate cars and take notice of them. Most people would only think it looks good or bad and a lot of people doing something is more often than not a good sign that something is good.

It's whether you like them that counts but it's always nice if everyone agrees with you :thumb:

Love the wheels in the first link. They look stunning on a 211.

Modding bug got you.....

You know the modding bug has got me Olly, only problem is ££'s, otherwise I would be going for it.

Those rotiforms do look good don't they!! They come in both cast and forged options, obviously with big cost differences! The forged ones are 3 piece and look better, but actually the ones shown in the pics are the cast versions and think can be had for under £1K for a set, whereas the forged ones are over £1K each.
