The target is to stop selling ICE cars without a hybrid powertrain in the UK by 2030, and for the UK to be net zero by 2050, but we will continue to need oil and gas for umpteen more things than petrol/diesel for cars.Hi , Prime Minister has announced that more drilling licences have been approved for the North Sea operators.
BUT still on target to stop production of ic cars by 2030.
What is going on !
Business as usual for us old coffin dodgers then. The target is to stop selling ICE cars without a hybrid powertrain in the UK by 2030, and for the UK to be net zero by 2050, but we will continue to need oil and gas for umpteen more things than petrol/diesel for cars.
Its also interesting to note that to stand any chance of getting to Net Zero it's commonly accepted that we will need to ramp up carbon sequestration (CCUS) - and the main players in that arena are....Shell, BP, Equinor etc.The target is to stop selling ICE cars without a hybrid powertrain in the UK by 2030, and for the UK to be net zero by 2050, but we will continue to need oil and gas for umpteen more things than petrol/diesel for cars.

Hi , you are correct. You meant to say "stop the sale of new ICE cars in the UK by 2030"? Our Prime Minister does not have the power to stop production of cars, given that most of the factories that make them are located abroad....
He could ban importing them though couldn’t he?Our Prime Minister does not have the power to stop production of cars, given that most of the factories that make them are located abroad....
He could, but will he.He could ban importing them though couldn’t he?
I hope not.He could, but will he.
Can't we do anything with the recovered carbon? Is it a gas? Can't it be burnt in an enclosed place? Hah, who needs scientists? Its also interesting to note that to stand any chance of getting to Net Zero it's commonly accepted that we will need to ramp up carbon sequestration (CCUS) - and the main players in that arena are....Shell, BP, Equinor etc.
Certainly in Europe the government funding for CCUS is way less than the US, where probably unsurprisingly there are far more active CCUS projects. So if European Governments want industry to fund CCUS projects to a greater degree then you can see an additional argument for allowing oil and gas exploration/development to continue.
Agreed. In my experience over the years, the majority use a car purely as a simple convenience, and are only interested in keeping the cost of running said convenience to an absolute minimum.Don't forget that most are not car people like us and don't care what powers their cars.....we area pretty small minority I would guess.
Its actually an interesting point because i keep reading that there is a shortage of CO2. Which sounds counter-intuitive. The "U" part in CCUS though stands for Utilisation so yes there is a plan in the process to utilise some of the CO2.Can't we do anything with the recovered carbon? Is it a gas? Can't it be burnt in an enclosed place? Hah, who needs scientists?
The perennial challenge with Tech: the new ones will be better. (They say)
Robert Llewelyn went into all this with his first Gen Leaf two years ago. I’m no expert on the subject and it will have all moved on, but it’s worth a look
Fully Charged is Robert’s EV and battery review channel.
Generally most haven’t rapid charged their Leaf. It’s from the overnight charge generation of EV’s
The motor trade will be well geared for this madnessNew car registration statistics should be interesting for 1st September 2029.
