I've just bought a '95 E300 diesel to add to my W124 stable.

The wheels are currently standard steel with trims and 195/65/15 tyres.

What would be a recommended size to go to, 16", 17" ?

And what size tyres have people fitted. I was thinking 205/55/16 or 205/50/17 as i don't really want to make the car feel all the road defects.

Cheers in advance.

Surely going for a thinner tyre will mean you will feel more?

I'd get a set of 7 x 15s from a Sportline car and stick to 15s with 195/65 or 205/60 tyres. I recommend Continentals

I ran a W124 on 205/55 x 16 for many years. It tracked fine, had good grip and great ride quality. Seem to remember it was on some nice lightwieght forged BBS wheels. My vote is 16" on a 124

You don't have a great deal of choice when going up in wheel diameter.

If you were to stick with the same aspect ratio then the speedo would be way out plus the car would look like it was a 4X4.

Most tyre sizes i have seen for 16" and 17" wheels have an aspect ratio of 45 or smaller.

I've been offered a set of 17" AMG alloys 7.5x17 ET37.
I think they should fit but what would be a reasonable price to pay. They are supposed to be in good condition, only require tyres.

Cheers
Ian
