Guys just a quick one, would I be right in thinking I need 17" wheel nut covers for my car? Not 100% sure!
Thanks

Do you mean full wheel trims (covers) for steel wheels? or a cover for the wheel nut head (didnt know this part existed !)

Steve

More like 17mm rather than 17" nuts I imagine :)

Just a personal preference, but I'm not a huge fan of them. I wonder how many people with covers check the torques regularly?

Of course... well interpreted.

From that, 17mm wheel nuts is the answer you require.

Just a personal preference, but I'm not a huge fan of them…

Well I already had one complete set of 16 wheel bolts and 4 locking bolts replaced by MB under warranty due to rust... now they rusted again.. and need replacing again... so the whole thing is becoming tedious.

There's something foundmentally wrong with the way MB manufacture wheel bolts, but these caps do seem like a reasonable fix to the problem...

I've decided I'm going to replace the bolts with a new (non MB) set.

Can someone do me a favour and look at these 2 options on ebay.

Will they fit my W211?

Any opinions on the quality etc?

By the way, are locking nuts really necessary these days? Do people still get their wheels pinched?

My concern regarding the bolt covers is that if they are made of metal/alloy/chrome they could corrode on the rusty bolts making removal difficult - not ideal when you are trying to change a wheel at the roadside.

It would probably be safer (though not as attractive looking) if they were made of fake-chrome plastic - at least you know you can split them open with a chisel or a flat screw driver.

Has anyone had any experience with these?

I had spme of those covers on my old Rover. They are chrome covered plastic. They look OK - certainly an improvement on the rusty bolts, but they do look a little "fake" - perhaps a little too sparkly.

Brabus made some of these type of things for the brabus smart car, however, as with everythiung smart related, they are slightly smaller than regular wheel bolts, lol, and would need some minor adjust ment to fit, however, they're not exactly cheap, and even if i could lay my hands on a single one instead of a set, and i could make them hit - dam smart cars only have 3 lugs per wheel ,so i'd have to buy 2 sets from brabus ... kerchinggggg !!
but, they do look good !

Audi do plastic nut covers that come in various colours. The set includes a removal tool, and slightly larger covers that go over locking nuts. You can get them on ebay.

Come to think of it my previous Vauxhall Omega came with plastic bolt covers, they had a slight double ridge at the top so could be easily pulled-off, and they were grey rather than chrome... will look it up as well.
