The white worm on my '14 plate E63 wheels (OEM 10 spoke diamond - titanium colour?) is now so bad I'm going to have to do something about it. The (excellent) wheel refurb guy I've used before says there's basically no point re-diamond cutting wheels as the white worm will be back within a year. So, I'm thinking about getting them done matt black, so similar to OEM-issue ones. My car's black.

So, just wondering if anyone has other suggestions on the white worm issue?

Also interested to see what opinions are on the matt black wheels with obsidian black body. Obviously highly subjective!

Your wheels, your choice. I had mine painted in gunmetal with no diamond cut. Diamond cut looks nice in the showroom and on garage queens but is a nightmare on a daily driver. IMO of course.

Yeah, I agree, I should have learned from previous diamond cut wheels!

Im not a fan of black wheels on a road car to be honest - silver all day long for me. The only exception might be gold but that's only on Subaru's and certain Italian Exotica! Black wheels look stealthy but i think they miss a trick to really add some sparkle/interest.

I also got rid of the diamond cut on my AMG wheels and went with gunmetal grey. They were previously black with diamond cut face.

Thanks... yeah thinking gunmetal grey might be a good option. But not sure with the black bodywork.

On a black car gun metal might be a bit odd. Black ten spokes on a black E look good....if a bit gansta!

Like this one...pic stolen from AT (before the alloys were kerbed to death!!....which does show much more on black wheel than silver BTW). I also think
shiny black looks better. Matt black looks like the wheels are caked in brake dust...to my eyes at least.

Thanks guys! You're probably right about gun metal on black. One thing I'm not is gangsta - but black does probably look better (and still haven't got round to de-chroming!).

Unfortunately, I won't be able to get the OEM look with the silver rim according to wheel man.

Gun Metal / Anthracite on Black actually works very well

Not Mercedes but previous cars i have owned as an idea of colour options

It is worth noting if you opt for black wheels you will need to religiously apply tyre shine or your tyres will look brown.

Also Gloss black wheels suffer the same issue as Gloss Black paintwork [swirls / dust / get dirty really quick]

This is what I did to mine re gunmetal...

Also a good silver will make the car pop :)

This is one the most subjective topics so you will get almost as many suggestions as there are colours and combinations.

Personally I like silver wheels, especially on black cars. I also like diamond cut wheels so I would refurb back to factory standard.

At some point though, there won’t be enough material to cut, at which point I would reluctantly switch to a non-cut finish.

If you do decide to go for black wheels then I would cut the lip to define the boundary between the whee and tyre.

The lip reduces the effect of the tyres looking brown and the wheels looking dirty very soon after cleaning.

Also without the lip; the chrome trim will look top-heavy,,with definition of shape on the top and not on the bottom of the car.

Last but not least diamond cut or silver wheels look cleaner for longer, which can fool the eye into thinking the car is cleaner.

Don’t expect black wheels to need refurbing less often. Kerb marks and chips really stand out, so expect to refurb often!

Go for what you like best even if it means it costs a little more over time. You have a special car so don't compromise.

Finally, many people who don’t re-cut because they think it doesn’t last sell the car before it becomes an issue any way!

Good luck with your decision!

My 2017 has 20’s multispoke, diamond cut in titanium grey, had them refurbished a few months back, not because of corrosion, as there wasn’t any, which is surprising for a 5 year old, but some a kerb damage.

Did read many posts about not going down the diamond cut route, but I felt I wanted to keep the original look, and so I went with that.

Did protect the wheel with GTecq ceramic coating to give it extra protection. When I wash it just use warm water with GTeq shampoo, and nothing else.

There is nothing you can do about it. I had mine (5 spoke) redone - full powder coat. The refurbisher will only give 6 months guarantee on diamond cut and it can only be done once.

I never liked the diamond cut and the updated wheels look better than the original (IMO). I went for a sort of dark gunmetal that matched the original painted part of the wheels.

I’m not fan of black wheels but, on a black car maybe! What about “chrome” or silver?
