I was disappointed to call WiM this week hoping to book an alignment for a new to me W251 R500L.

Not only did the guy on the phone seem absolutely clueless about setting up MB but he said that Joe doesn’t work there.

It’s a really shame, as Joe really understood Merc set up. Does anyone know if he’s moved elsewhere?

WIM was sold to Protyre at the beginning of last year, with the subsequent loss of expertise. There is apparently a post on the forums that covers where Joe ended up but I think you have to be a member to see it - Important Announcement About WIM

I would also like to know where Joe has moved to, if any members know, please do share. Joe knows his stuff, just like the late Tony did. Both is and we’re too blokes.

Thanks a lot for the response -- I've registered and shall await validation before checking it out and updating on here.

Pirelli Performance Centre in Burton On Trent is supposedly brilliant.
State of the art equipment and very knowledgeable staff
I have not used them myself but a friend swears by them.
Maybe a bit far for some maybe some local can comment.
Hope this helps
Jim

I heard Centre Gravity in Warwickshire was a good specialist that can tune suspension based on the driver’s driving style. I haven’t used them as they’re not near where I live. I used a main dealer instead which didn’t fill me with confidence unfortunately

I enquired about using them previously after pot hole damage and subsequent replacement of a lower arm replacement on my previous C63.

Although they advertise as working on Porsche's and 'other prestige and sports cars', they do a lot of work setting up race cars. Consequently when I called them, they were too busy (or more likely not interested in one off work from a joe public) to fit me in for months. Not only that, they were crazy expensive for a 4-wheel alignment...

So personally, I wouldn't bother.

Have to be honest I was always underwhelmed with WIM and I know I’m not the only one, seemed a bit hit and miss - I had a couple of poor experiences in terms of alignment and tyre fitting.

I would certainly try Centre Gravity if I needed alignment again, they get (or used to get!) really good feedback from the Porsche guys.

Plenty of places have the correct kit, you need someone with patience and experience to make correct use of it though.
