The cigarette lighter in my car is not working and the first thing I should check is the fuse but don't know where it is.

I opened the panel on the side of the dash, and there was a sheet of paper with a diagram and locoation of fuses. I found the fuse for the rear power socket (which is working fine), but it doesn't say anything where the front one is?

Help?!

May be in the boot or under bonnet from memory. Been discussed many times here - try a few searches and all should be revealed

Should be fuse #54 at the left engine compartment fuse box (I don't know if these are swapped for a RHD car but the fuse number should be the same anyway).

Yes - on the off-side (driver's side) just under the scuttle.

The lid will be awkward to remove, and even more awkward to replace properly.

Make sure you do replace it properly, however, because it is supposed to seal tight against the box, and there are a lot of very expensive electronics in there which I'm sure would not want to get wet... You'll know when it is back on properly, as both securing locks cannot engage properly unless the lid is seated correctly.

Incidentally, you have a choice as to whether you want the circuit to be permanently live, or ignition-on only. Fuse 54, and the one next to it (which I belive covers the power socket for rear seat passengers), can be positioned in one of two ways. You'll see when you get it open. In line with the rest of the fuses means ignition-on only, whereas off-set to the side means permanently live. Your choice!!

Not going to use it to light up ??:ban:

Ok, just had a look and there is no fuse 54. There's fuses 021 to 042 (consecutive) - obviously not all of them are there becase of the options.

For the rear socket, it is Fuse 013 which is in the boot.

Do you mean there is no fuse #54 in the sheet or did you actually have a look at the front SAM?

Christopher - the fuse box is under the bonnet - not under the dash. Right at the back of the engine compartment just in front of the scuttle. There is a large black plastic cover with two locking mechanisms - one on each side. The cover is partially covered by a black rubber moulding.

The manual for the car does not mention this location. Mercedes seem to want this kept a secret for some unfathomable reason. :wallbash:

There is no fuse 'map' for it either.

Found it!!!

Many thanks, fuse replaced, now I've got my Tomtom, PDA and phone working nicely now.

Now I'm wondering why this is such a big secret, and what the other fuses are for?!

I guess the idea is that the owner would not take care of these fuses, and would not need to take care of these fuses. The cigarette lighter fuse in this case is probably not placed in the best fuse box.

You can get the complete fuse diagram from workshop documents if you wish.

Puzzled here!

My satnav is plugged into a dedicated cigar lighter which is hooked into the back of the existing cigar lighter and tucked away behind the ashtray etc. Only change has been that in my recent rear end shunt the audio unit popped out and had to be put back when the car was repaired, so some wires will have been disturbed I guess

My satnav is not taking power, neither is the original cigar lighter working. Aha! thought I - fuses gone. Checked the fuses in the cabin and under the bonnet (as above threads) and they are both OK.

Anybody got an idea what to look at next?

So you have a second lighter piggy-backed into the back of the factory one?

If so, then I am guessing that the shunt (or the audio flying around) dislocated some wiring in the back of the factory lighter and this possibly needs re-locating?

Cigarette lighter fuse for 2003 SL350?

My Cig Lighter not working for accessories. Where is fuse please, otherwise I guess a new unit is in order.

Just managed to find this thread as my lighter socket is not working and sure enough the fuse is blown so thanks (to this thread).

Is anything else running off the same fuse though or is it lighter socket only? I'm just wondering what else isn't working at the moment.

is this fuse under the bonnet then ??? fuse 54 ??? as my front lighter don't work .
