I've got a 1997 C-class with the standard fit IR immobilizer in the rear view mirror and can't find where the small stubby siren key fits. The siren is in the usual position in the RH of the engine bay but I've spent an hour trying to find where the key might fit ????

Nope, I've also checked the passenger footwell without luck

is it in the glovebox? - was on my old a class....

Hi Adam - on several 96/97 spec W202s I have seen, the keyhole has definately been on the siren box itself. There is a small plastic/rubber type cover that lifts up to reveal the hole.

Failing this, are you certain that the alarm/siren is all original?

I could obviously be wrong, but HTH :)

Good Luck,

Will

thats where it is on my 96 C Class - right on top

No sign of a key hole on the siren at all however tracing the wires back there is a connection block under the headlight so I guess in an emergency I could just disconnect the power supply.
Best not to fiddle as it does work perfectly as is !

ehh , no ... not quite.

its got an internal battery backup im afraid. That would be good if someone was gonna nick your car :) cut the connections to the siren :D

Only way mine was stopped by 2x AA vans was disconnecting my Horn itself

OK, after more than a year I've found it !:bannana:
In the upper panal in the passenger footwell there are some
round vent holes, the key hole is neatly fitted into one of these.
If you remove the panal it's obvious. At the time I thought the wiring was for the interior temp sensor

I'll have to have a look and see where it goes on my '97 R129 ... it's definitely not in the glovebox.

Mines in the back of the glovebox, I'd always wondered what it was for!
