Just had a post moved from general discussions

it was started as a general discussion about what other jobs i should look at before i start the re spray (not necessarily bodywork)

now if i have a question about window replacement where should i put it!

we dont have a window section do we?????

im sure its not people being difficult however every time i bump something i get told to stop bumping it yet everyone on here bumps stuff. maybe its just me, :dk:

Good morning Michael,just ask here

Morning dash, how you doing???

So after a year or so of financial disaster, i finally have a bit of spare cash so have opted for a re spray however my front window has the white clouding in the corners and i guess should be replaced, however where do i start looking for a replacement

i have read on this forum that auto windscreens have supplied and fitted non original mb windows as original.

where can i source an original window from?

in addition to the re spray, i have finally found a set of 8 hole 15 inch alloys that will be sent awayb for a full refurb and my drivers seat will be changed over to leather, should be looking great once done

it wont be a colour change, i got a very good deal on the re spray but only if i keep original colour which is fine for me

thanks

All good here thnx, hope the same your way.I`ve heard people had their windscreen changed at the dealers but I guess it`ll cost a fair bit for a 124 and don`t think insurance will be happy with it.Unless you`re paying yourself

Michael..

Get a quote from:

Autoglass® Windscreen Repair and Replace - Autoglass® UK

Not sure how good this U.K. company is but it sounds much like the operation of a USA auto glass company "Safelite"

Specialists like this typically offer a quality replacement at a reasonable cost which is what you should be looking for in your respray

Also consider replacing all your rubber seals around the windows.
This alone will make your finished job feel and look like new !

Its entirely possible your MB dealer will farm out the windscreen fitting to a specialist such as Autoglass although they will supply an MB screen as part of the process. The surest way is to find a good windscreen shop--- customer personal recommendation is best and get them to fit a genuine MB screen.

Why are you bothered about having an original branded windscreen?

I read a thread on here where a member had a non original screen fitted and it was blurred. and caused his eyes to go funny when he looked through it

I've had brand new cars with blurred screens, just don't accept it and have another fitted.

Mercedes don't make glass.

Autoglass replced the windscreen in my w124 estate for the £65 excess on my insurance. Just had to sign a form at the their depot and they did eveything else. I Didn't even have to call my insurer. A new windscreen is incredible when you're used to looking through one with 19 years of scratches and resin repaired chips.

I reckon if you take the car to their depot they'll "Recommend" it be replaced and do the same.

They will happily replace a delaminated screen. I am told it has to be done at a depot as there is a higher risk of it disintegrating. Mine has a non original screen but you cant tell the difference. Has the tint band etc.
