Which Oil and was he right ?

Hi,

Just recently taken adavantage of the £15 Halfords fully Synthetic oild deal.

Wasn't sure which one to use when a young help assistant suggested 5W-40 unsure and welcome for the advice I bought two.

Was he right ??? My car is a C Class C240 2001 Model

Is anyone in the know ??

It should say somewhere in the manual with the car.

I know the W202 is 10W/40 - 15W40

I had same dilemma on my clk 230k, it does state correct oil spec in service manual/log
i opted for shell helix ultra 5w 40 fully syn installed at ATS euromaster in braintree essex priced at £33.99 including new filter considering my car takes 5.6 litres thought this was bargin price

Unfortunately I don't have the service booklet hence the reason for the inquiry. The C240 takes 8 litres (V6). Halfords normally have oil guides for when buying but it didn't list my car ?

I've had that in my 240 for the last 6 months and nothing has fallen off. Are halfords doing that deal this weekend?

a) Top up the oil before a long run to Manchester

b) to a full change in the next few weeks.

I am told that the Halford full synthetic is a rebranded Comma Oils product, Syner-G 5w-40 or Syner-D 5w-40.

There is a vehicle application guide on their site

Note that the Syner-G does not meet MB229.3, only 229.1. Syner-D (Diesel) meets both

I use the Halford 5W/40 .. it states on the container that it meets Mercedes 229.3 spec

This evening (Friday) i purchased a 4 ltr bottle of MOBIL 1 fully syn from ASDA in Cardiff for £8.90. The one ltr was £9 something, they had loads there. Wonder if other ASDA's are doing the same deal.

Went and bought another 4 ltrs of Mobil 1 today from ASDA cardiff, have enough for an oil change now. Still only £8.98 for 4 ltr
