Why do we adore BHP

power means being able to overtake safely, quickly and without fuss .. leading to more stress free motoring.

power also means that you never have to wonder why it's taking so long to accelerate up a hill ..

and most of all, power is addictive .. and like all addictions, it's best not to be reckless with it.

its not displacement most big engined bikes will blitz the supercars - i can see an argument for ample power - That could though mean a fairly small car with a reasonable engine Golf tdi for instance - more power to weight

Love the way you blew your own argument there

With a bike power to weight is everything, same as a car, and you get get big power in a bike through big displacement.

Aberdeen to Edinburgh (130 miles) in 1hr 10mins, return trip 1hr 20mins (raining) - with 140hp.
Try that today.

I would politely suggest you were probably speeding, and really some to cover 130 miles in 1hr ten mins. 70mins, 130miles. An average speed I've worked out of 111mph. Please tell me you're kidding.

In the rain you've averaged 97mph if it took you 80mins.

I suspect I've miscalculated, or you're exaggerating or you've mistimed yourself.

If not, your driving licence and you will part company at best, or you will crash and die and take others with you at worse.

Bear in mind if you've gone the a90 the Dundee section is a 50 so you've been well above those average speeds.

I'm guessing you are a biker or actually you flew. I can see no other way....

I get 79 bhp out of a 2.3 diesel.

I chose a down-tuned and elderly proven design because I rarely bother to service my vehicles and I like reliability.

Horses for courses I guess.

Our Z4 is bottom of the range too. 150bhp. It is nippy enough at 8 seconds to 60. While I enjoy the acceleration of a large engine I am definitely not prepared to pay for it.

why are you bothered? Bellow is a steady enough chap nowadays and it seems his epic speeding was without incident.

And that road is a cracker. We once did it four up in a fiat panda on five inches of fresh snow in the outside lane at 70-80 mph. Narrow tyres were handy. :)

Power is when we have every justification to kill, and we don't

Power is not just the ability to do something, but also the ability to choose not to.

If he drives like that and takes me with him I have every right to be bothered.

Likewise as a taxpayer we all pay out for the costs of cleaning up what could be a horrific shunt. I'm taking the stance he took in my this is heaven thread. As a taxpayer I have a right to voice my concern over the costs of cleaning up RTAs this sort of driving causes. Not to mention the consequential rise to all our insurance premiums.

If Bellow tells me his estate will privately fund the cost of the clean up of any RTA his reckless driving causes, or better still drives in a safe and considered manner, I'll have no issue at all.

HTH (assuming that post re journey times is true)

Have you missed all the self righteousness I've had from a speeder in previous posts/threads or are you conveniently forgetting something?

Edit
I've learned my lessons of previous wrongs. I just hope someone else has, for all our good.

Most of us have pressed pedal to far - it tends to be an age related thing .Now older and wiser apart from the odd clearing of cobwebs driving is less urgent for me . Some never grow up i suppose .

Hang on a minute it's less than 12 months ago when you stated "I love speeding, I think its amazing fun and not dangerous where considtions allow, but its a costly thing if you get caught, and if you speed a lot, you will get caught (I should know, 2FPN's,3points and one speed awereness course all earned in six fast and furious months)....."

How does that work then or have you finally seen the light ?

I'm looking forward to getting a 190 BHP BMW in the Spring/Summer :D.

I find it very much depends on the vechicle too, I could get in the E55 and drive it around quite happily like it was a 220 CDI most of the time, however I find it harder to restrain myself on a bike unless it's in town.
