Why does computer stop at 40 mpg?????

Mine doesn't... ?

Instantaneous readout on my C220 does, and I've often wondered why, as the 'from start' or 'from reset' figure is often in the 50s or 60s of mpg.

Youve often wondered but not found out?

Had mine a day and ill find out in 2 days

Hoping someone on MB "technical" forum will *know* why

The newer versions of firmware go higher than 40. You may need to upgrade the firmware.

Good point, one to you!

My excuse is it's a lease car, and I'm not spending more than I need!

I have noticed on the bar the maximum miles per gallon I can do is 40 does this mean my from start will only ever show a max of 40 miles to the gal. I'm sure it has not been like that on my other mercs owned.

Seriously people...RTFM.

Why would we want to do that when some people on this forum might like to answer questions asked.
Not much point to a forum when the replies are RTFM

And some questions asked are quite funny

Presumably it only reads to 40mpg because MB have fitted the same system to all models. Likewise why don't the mpg readouts graduate in 0.1 mpg rather steps, 45.6,46.3,47.1,47.9 etc. Other manufacturers can do it.

I just assumed that was because round figures of ltrs per 100kms when converted won't give round figures of mpg. However, I must admit that I haven't RTFM on this point..........

OK, taking your advice, I've spent the last 15 minutes looking through the FM, and can see no mention of the instantaneous readout, except what it is and how to access it. But I knew this already. Even the illustration shows it max'ing at 40mpg.

What have I missed?

Thanks

The dashboard display only reads to 40mpg on most models because that is what was decided on by MB, however the actual calculation can be any figure.
The display in Comand goes up to 50mpg.

Did you notice that in the FM?

Probably 40mpg because they thought it best to limit it somewhere. Mine goes to 99.9...totally meaningless of course, but it does show that I am (at that moment) driving very economically.

It would perhaps be better to have a gauge which showed by means of a swinging arm when we were driving most economically...after all, that's all the instant read out shows. The real mpg is "since reset".

Sorry, no I didn't. My car doesn't have Comand, so I didn't look in the Comand bit. Does that make a difference?

However, even 50 mpg on instant readout wouldn't be much help, when 'from start' can be much higher.

So regardless of the RTFM exhortation, FM wasn't much help.

Renault, Just like in the 80s then?
