Does anybody have any ideas about where to start checking out my air con. The compressor is not getting power, Thats all i know. The button lights up on the dash when i press it. But nothing else happens. If anybody knows where i can check then thanks .

Also there is a long aluminium cylinder in the air-con circuit i wondered what it was . It has a sensor in the top and if i disconnect it the fan cooling fan starts blowing.

Anyway ...:dk:thanks

Air con systems have many fail-safes in them, including the aluminium cylinder thingy (it sounds like you're describing the receiver/dryer) and its sensor. If any of the sensors detect a fault the system will not engage.

Have the gas checked (KwikFit do a decent job) and when they find little or none, have the system checked for leaks.

If the pressure in the system has dropped , the compressor will not engage , despite the switch lighting up .

Have the system filled with gas incorporating a dye........then why dye leaks out, this can be seen using UV or similar......

i had mine checked and re gassed at kwikfit a couple of weeks ago they seem to have done a good job and it only cost £25. i didnt think i would ever have anyting good to say about kwik**it

Any idea where i might find the pressure switch to do a temporary bypass ??#

I dont think kwikfit here (ireland) do that sort of thing but i will check it out. Probably charge 150 quid here anyway.

Not a good idea. If there's no gas in it you'll get no cooling anyway and you stand a very good chance of destroying the compressor.

I've discovered if i disconnect the hi-lo pressure switch the cooling fan starts. thats as far as i got . Under normal running it should start the fan when the aircon is switched on. Still have to find someplace to check for gas though:dk:
