Widebody 560 SEC AMG

Original strattons car with nothing but the widebody kit, wheels and different door cards.

So IMO i would give two jots about it being an original Strattons.. id only look at the condition of it now.

See in my mind that ranks as aftermarket (despite Stratton being an Agent), Neville was telling me about the expanding foam on one of the official cars He had.

The only ones that really attract premiums are proper factory cars (IMO of course).

I dont think there was such a thing? Back then AMG were just a series of agents in each country (of course with the head office in germany)...
quality was dependant on which side of bed the technician got out of that particular morning.

There were factory AMGs back then - Stratton didn't do all cars themselves.....some were sent to Germany, Affalterbach where the complete conversion was done....my Hammer was done this way...see chassis plate on slam panel below...

Good job he photographed it in the dark. If it wasn't for his description of it being 'The Dog's ******' I'd never have guessed what it is.

looking closely they look like genuine AMG split rims. what a waste!

They tended to be major mechanical conversions that were probably a little too much to undertake at dealer level.

Talbir's E230 to E560 is a good example, lots of very bespoke work there that really needs the resources of the factory, particualrly being a RHD V8 W124 saloon...no off the shelf parts for that car, it was cut, fabricate, mix and match out of the parts bin.

A full house 6.0 quad cam widebody is more likely to be an AMG Factory car than a cosmetic vehicle only and would be of much greater interest and value.

I particularly like the George Harrison E560 that Talbir owns, that really appeals to me despite there being far more powerful and far faster vehicles available now for less cash.

i have messaged the guy thro ebay. he owns a gym in cov, and says the car is not an original. he also stated he 'rags' it and has had three sets of rear tyres in the last 3 months...:dk::wallbash:

on a side note, my widebody was done at strattons with the engine sent to germany.

as far as expanding foam goes in one of nevils cars, was it avalible in the 80's? more likely added at a later date me thinks!

the welding is, however, not of the highest quality on some of the bodys that i have seen, but it is 20 odd years so some ofthat may also be not original, the quality of the wing fittment on mine is very very good.

Nev's car is an original Widebody - i've seen it all over, i's the real thing and the whole nine yards.

The expanding foam may have been done after during a repair ?

I don't think Neville was mentioning his own car but He'd definately seen an unmolested Stratton vehicle that had foam in the arches.

sorry to say it again, but was expanding foam even avalible in the 80s? i have only come across it recently, like when having windows in the house put in ect!

an un molested example could still have someone think it a good idea to add some of that 'new' expanding foam in, mabe years after the car, original or not, was built.

These cars were still being built as late as the early 90's.
