Wife A class damaged while in Multistory... :(

Ive only thought Mercedes Chester as I am 10 mins away walking so wouldn't need a car or anything just drop it off let them do it?

Thanks though will keep it in mind

Rang the insurance and they say (esure) we have protected no claims and protceted bonus for the life of the policy. Our no claims will not be affected but we will if we change insurnace have to tell the new insurance company we have made a none fault claim?

Not sure what this will mean in the long run.

Yes..but will it effect the base premium onto which this discount is applied?

Would recommend you call them and ask them...

Will check above thanks.

I was busy all day today but wife took car to Chester Mercedes and was told the body shop had moved, so I will take it when off... its only further down the road :)

Your dent is bodyshop only.

Could possibly be improved with PDR, but your paint is chipped anyway.

Tried to take it last Thursday as wife was getting the train...

She was running late so took the car :(

Then tried Sat morning but closed. Will try again when I can :)

Hi A210AMG,
Just noticed your post- - seems like a spate of this in Chester!
see my post :(
Stuart.

Hello

Finally manged to take the car to MB Body shop in Chester.

THey have e-mailed me a 4 page documnet listing all the time / costs etc..

So for some kind person who drove off and for us to fix it the 'cheap' way will be £760 inc vat

I say cheap as the assesser priced the job as if I would be paying (fiar enough) so did not include a new door. He said when looking at the dint that a he thinks a new door is required.

This would then bring the total to nearly £2000 !!!

I can see how easy it would be to write these cars off.... that seems daft replcaing a whole door?

Anyway will have a think as a dent / paint repairer reckons on £130 and will come to house. Not happy then don't pay.

Huge difference?

Your door can definately be saved!!

No way do you need a new door - unless you want to totally avoid body filler. Even then, it would only need a new door skin - not a whole door.

My partners door on her 03 reg Fiesta was reversed into recently and it definately needs a skin - its totaly wrecked.

Bristol Street Motors bodyshop quoted just over £1000 and another reputable bodyshop quoted just under £1000. We ended up settling for cash in lieu of repair (as the other parties insurance was paying) and was sent a cheque for £725.

The lower amount was because the insurance company had negociated the price down.

Both quotes were for a new door skin and to paint the entire side of the car to guarantee a colour match.

Surely the amount of labour involved is the same between a Ford and Merc? And a door skin cant differ that much in price?

If a mobile guy is doing the repair on your drive, then make sure he has the damage prepared first by a PDR guy. Filler is only supposed to be a thin skim - you shouldn't really deep fill, although some repairers do.

The labour for fitting a door skin out weighs any saving over a new door.

Mercedes of Chester actually siad they do not fit skins...

Its a repair or a new door.

To be fair I thought they would just fit a new door, these days they don't seem to have the skill to actually repair anything its a throw away world..

I think given the excess is £250 and even though my wife has protected no claims and some other protection on her policy they are bound to fleece us some how..

I'm tempted to see what these PDR guys can do, I am about to ring one that actually fix's the dint and paints see what he says.

Thanks

Why not get a used door fitted and sprayed?

You might get the whole job done for £400?

Well FWIW - - when I complained about my recent repair work at that dealership they just advised me I had definitely had a new panel/skin fitted which still had a mark in it:wallbash:
They said that it was a common occurrence in C Class owing to the pressings at the factory and showed me some other aspects of my car that had slight distortions in other panels:(. TBH the mark that was there was in the same area as the original damage and I was convinced it was just a spiel. You have to look at the area from a particular angle to notice it and many prolly wouldn't:dk:
Since some other t - - t had damaged my tailgate they offered to repair that foc if I would accept the door as is:confused:
I agreed to that as it would have cost me more for the second repair as I wasn't going through insurance and had already forked out £250 excess for the first prang and the way people seem to be targeting my car it will happen again:mad:
I wait to pick up car today and hope to god Its a good fix and I can relax . The bstrds who do the damage drive off scott free and leave us hoping to god they get theirs someday soon:cool:
Best of luck with your repair:)
Stuart.

People do sometimes get their come-uppance, honest!

I was driving around at night with my mate in a Focus when the car in front of me passed a parked car bafflingly close and took the wing mirror off, before carrying on their merry way...

...Well, for about 10m down the road until I switched the strobes on.

Now THAT is muppetry of the highest order!

the way people seem to be targeting my car it will happen again:mad:

I've getting paranoid about leaving my car parked anywhere - I work from home now and it's getting to the point where I hardly use the Merc. Tend to use wifey's Jazz for all the running around.

I do have to leave it at an airport for a couple of days next week and of the whole trip that's the part which is worrying me most.

It does sort of defeat the object of having anything nice though...

I have booked it in for a repair with a local paint / dent specialist and will see how I go.

Update,

Local guy came round to fix the car £125. Did a superb job of fixing the dint and you really would not know its there. On spraying it however the color was not quite right and I wasn't happy. He took from 8.30am to 1.30pm doing this. He accepted no money as he wanted to get it better.

Coming back again he re sprayed the door and although better not right. The shade is a tad darker...

Again he said he did not want any money as I was not happy. I was happy with the dint being removed and even now it looks better even in the wrong shade than looking at the dint (you would have to know its there to spot the colour really)

I paid him £40 and said at least you can get a drink or two.

Now I have to get the door sprayed to match the car..... I thought the paint code off the VIN would have done but the mobile guy probably hasn't the kit / same working conditions as proper spray booths.

My question..

How much should it cost to spray the door do people think? I've no idea.

Thanks

Top quality bodyshop ....... £200 - £250+

Backstreet .....£70 - £100

Thanks for that.

Prevoulsy I've taken my cars to a garage in Ardwick manchester and looks well dodgy like a cut and shut place BUT the people are so nice and have all the work from the local Jaguar garage.

I will have a trawl round Chester see if there are any similar places, I'm guessing MB Chester would be a lot..

Still quids in so far as excess is £250

Ouch, looks a sore one, hope you get it sorted without too much trouble!
