Hi
Can anybody tell me how the wind deflector attaches to the car. I have just bought this SLK and the wind deflector was in a pocket behind the seats. I don't know if there is a bit missing. I have checked the handbook, but it says the strap attaches to the hook on the car, I do not have a hook. I can attach it at the sides and down behind the seats, but where does the popper and velcro bit go!!

The mesh should be a really tight fit around the head restraints and will stay on even at speed.
I do miss my SLK!!

I'm also having a problem in fitting my net wind deflector. I have a 1999 SLK and next to the roll bars is a small length of strap with a square "buckle" type ring but on the wind deflector is a popper type fitting. Any suggestions anyone please.

Undo the poppers and you should have a strap about 3 inches long. thread this through what i can only describe as a square shaped hole next to the roll bars. there are 2 plastic hooks behind the seats what you fix the net to with the 2 plastic button holes. then fix the 2 bits of elasticated string to the little knobs situated between the doors and the seats and finally pull the net over the roll bars

yup.. combersome little thing, though back in the last 90's it appeared to be the best invention ever.. but what a dissapointment... mine is somewhere..dunno where though.. hmmmm

It beats me how these work(put something behind you full of fine holes and it will stop the wind in front of you) magic or what. I fitted mine at the weekend as the GF looked like i had dragged her through a hedge without it. I was still in trouble though for playing with a Ford KA softtop.

Evening all, hope you are well.

I'm bringing this back to the top because, having searched several pages, it is the closest to my query.

I have a 1999 slk which I must say I'm still very pleased with (especially the colour) but I have shoulder length hair and although I can brush it after a 'go with the top down' I don't like it getting into my eyes and restricting my vision.

All I could see while searching the usual suspects to get a mesh wind deflector were popper models.

Can anyone confirm that a popper model can be converted to the buckle model?

Many thanks for your comments. I can get a popper model relatively reasonably and at this stage just don't like the clear version.

Regards,

Lisa

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it before but there is an alternative in the shape of a fixed clear acrylic/perspex screen like this Mercedes SLK R171 Wind Deflector Acryl Glass | eBay but I have seen them cheaper and with better, more user friendly frames.

I've seen 'em GVM, but don't really like 'em. I think they have an etched logo on them? With the colour of this car, I try to downplay everything else, so avoiding the Perspex logo version. Also, I consider (though have no expertise to rely on) that the Perspex version may be a little more dangerous in an accident? (I was making my way along the lanes on. Y side of our common city recently and a red modern convertible, possibly a M*zda, came tooling around a blind bend causing me to take evasive action. No one can apparently see this car!)
