I have a w210 model with rain sensor on the Intermittent Wiper position. Is there any way to selectively modify the action to 'fixed delay' rather than rain sensor action. I find that when the rain is very fine and light, the wipers still tend to work continuously when a delayed action would be more suitable.

U could get the Stealer to adjust the sensitivity of the rain sensing wipers to rectify this or alternatively you disconnect the wire in the front interior light switch that is linked to the rain sensor from the black box mounted on to the front windscreen.

i use my screen washer a little squirt on the sensor does the trick but you need to re adjust the jet to hit the sensor

If you disconnect the rain sensor, it changes to regular intermittent mode.

Sunman,

Thanks for the reply, you sound as though you have done this. Can you tell me the best way to make this disconnection, if this is done in the box mounted on the back of the windscreen it may be worth putting in a mini switch that allows you to flip between the two modes.

I find it works much better when the wiper blade is replaced, because the old blade isn't clearing the water properly. The blades only last around 10000 miles, perhaps that's why they've gone back to two wipers now.

Interesting observation, I noticed the same effect too while spraying water on the sensor window area, the blade left a water smear across the sensor area which probably re-triggered the wiper. I will try replacing the wiper rubber insert. I am also investigating putting a mini-slide switch in the sensor snap-on cover that will turn the sensor off and revert to delayed action if desired.

As opposed to changing the rubber on its own, you might consider a whole new blade. I've just replaced mine (new inserts from 41K to 140 odd thousand, thought it was time to retire it).

Now sweeps better.
