My near side wing mirror indicator flashes when locking, indicating, hazards, but will NOT flash when unlocking the car and thus causing a fault warning on the dashboard screen.

What would cause this, and what is the fix? :dk:

That's an odd one. Normally you would suspect the wiring, which is prone to breaking, but flashing in some circumstances but not all is very odd. Clearly not a localised wire breakage, but I've no idea unfortunately as to what it might be.

How long has it done it, and is it every time?

Started a couple of weeks ago, I recall it being intermittent I think, now consistent after pressing the lock/unlock button like a demented baboon today.

Can only thing that it tries to flash in the folded position, which might be because of a broken wire held by the insulation. Tomorrow I'll switch the mirror fold feature off and repeat the test. Could be that a broken wire is stretched apart in the folded position.

With the mirrors unfolded, the problem goes away. The Indicators flash on unlock and locking etc.

With the mirrors folded, the left Indicator does not flash on unlocking or locking.

This was a 3 second test as I parked the car this morning. This evening I'll fold the mirrors in and test the hazards and left indicator functions just to be sure.

I think I have a broken wire that only seperates when the mirror is folded. Does that sound like the likely culprit?

I've been been here long, so I'm not a native as such. I live in Deanshanger and work in Tongwell :)

haha fair enough! not that far from me then :) . i live in coffee hall and am on the job hunt for a graduate position in Mechanical engineering :)

Ah - I understand the problem better now. So it does sound like a broken wire after all. The folding puts a strain on an existing break which is conveniently closed up when the mirrors are out. Fiendish!

If it's any consolation, I think I have a broken wire on my n/s mirror too. But mine powers the mirror heating. Or rather, it doesn't.

It sounds like there is a break in the loom on the mirror, it needs taken apart
to source if thats any help

Yup, a broken wire. This is booked in to be done, I suck with a soldering iron.

Dealer will tell you that it needs new mirror. It can be repaired if they can be bothered...

I had this on my 203 and turned out to be a broken wire which probably caught onto something and over time got worse.

Take it apart and have a good look.

Indeed, I would never use a MB dealer for this sort of work. I have a pet indie who likes soldering
