Winter Tyres speed limit

Just wondering if anybody else has come across this?

It's a message that comes up on my C350 CDI, along with an electronic limiter.

Now, I thought that the car was limited to 155mph, so I was a little surprised when this came up and stopped me going any faster. I have to say, I felt slightly cheated. Not that I really needed to be going any faster than I was, but when it says one thing on the tin . . .

Anyhoo, I'm presuming that this is something that is just programmed in and if desired could be turned off by accessing the engineers' menu or something.

Would this be a really bad idea?

If the consensus is no, then would some kind soul be able to point me in the direction of a handy guide how to turn it off?

Thanks in advance

I have the ability to set a speed limit for winter tyres / no reason at all in my menu - I suggest you consult the handbook as someone has set this at some point. Not knowing modern MB menus I can't help further, but it's a doddle to set / remove in my 02 car. Evidently it has been set at a low threshold!

There is nothing bad about changing it back.

Yep, there's a user programmable speed limiter buried in the menus. They call it a winter tyre limiter, but Daddy has been known to enable it when Junior has borrowed the car ;)

In W211 it can be set via instrument cluster:
settings - vehicle - speed limit (winter tyres) - limit speed/off

Like Charles I can set it too...but the lowest I can set it is 100 mph...so what track were you on?

Ah, excellent. That's done it.

*Note to self: RTFM*

Thanks all
