Wireless router

Do you know what you talking about ? :))
That is not true:)

Cheers
Chris

I can assure you that it is.

Years ago it was [email protected] but they did away with the need to use that quite some time ago.

I'm but no means an expert, by the way, but I am pretty experienced with getting this stuff working for my own use and friends, family and neighbours (great thing about doing neighbours is I have a choice of access points to use - although they all use BT).

My BT account is now [email protected]

When I was on a Business BT Broadband tariff my account was [email protected] - But that was years ago :)

Edit: When I was setting up routers for the users at work we had a contract with BT and all the accounts were set up as [email protected]

My user account is the same, but you don't need to use that for the broadband modem or router login.

I'm not disputing that that works - in fact it's bound to work as literally "anything" works. Try it - change username for anything and it will still work. There doesn't need to be any login / password for BT as they know who are as you're connected via their telephone line.

That's exactly what's in my router login. Others I've set up like that work. The link I posted (which is a few years old) illustrates that too.

That's not how billing system was setup 12 months ago and I doubt much has changed.

I had to move the BT guys (2 of them turned up) out of the way to do my BT Vision install. They sat on the settee while I put it in. They were just completely astonished that it worked without the BT Hub and connected by a pre-installed cat-5 cable to a router in a different room.

It's worked as "anything" for some years. I installed my next door neighbours router almost 3yrs ago and I knew about it then. He's Operations Manager for an IT company (but knows little about IT) and was quite surprised I'd got it working without knowing is account details.

To be clear, I'm talking about the login details that go into the router. The BT account (if you wanted to look on the BTYahoo web page, for example) is still [email protected] and your proper password - obviously as you're looking at a web page there's no direct tie to you, as there is with the router hard connected to your home phone line.

ETA: see the 3rd post in this thread, from Sept05, which explains a little better than I did:

If your laptop sees the router but you cant connect to the internet, i would say the set up isn't complete yet.

Is there a password key printed on the unit?

If so, type this into the set up for this wireless network connection.
