Have an 06 R320cdi and recently just stopped while driving, it started jumping in and out of power and then stopped and wouldn’t restart, went to start but died straight away, after a bit of diagnosing the replaced the high pressure fuel pump, but now the car starts ok but won’t rev or move, and will eventually after about 30 seconds the engine will start to struggle and cut out on its own, but will start up again no problem but dies after 20-30 seconds again any ideas? I did fit a fully refurbished HPFP from Germany from a company called Reteca

Did you change valve sitting on pump flange (fuel quantity valve)? It takes control of pressure after start.

Need to get it on a diag, should show you fuel pressure and engine rpm in live data, start with them to see what they read.

Ok just thought i'd update, so got a diagnostic computer on the car and no error codes at all, garage run a live data test and all within parameters, good fuel pressure nothing out of the ordinary, tried disconnecting the exhaust from the turbo in case of a exhaust blockage, again same thing, runs for 30 seconds then just starts to die and splutter and cut out, then i randomly case across a thread somewhere with not dissimilar symptoms just theirs was cutting out within 2 seconds, turns out it had a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor beside the EGR valve, even though not engine EML or codes stored, new one from Mercedes for £67 and bang all going again perfectly.

So was there nothing wrong with the high pressure fuel pump?
Doesn’t look like it, but hard to say as initially before I replaced th hpfp the car wouldn’t even start, after fitting a new one the car started ok but only run for 30 seconds before cutting out each time
