Problem W124 M103 .Will only run if pumps are primed .And stpps

There is, but they require mods to fit.

The diesel version is a direct fit, but the gauze size is larger to suit the thicker fuel.

There is the version from the earlier cars that uses a slightly smaller fuel feed pipe, just needs the hose down to the pumps swapping with it.

My car would start but would cut out when I tried to drive. It would then take a while to start again and cut out when driven again.

Trevor, you’re overthinking this. Just get the tank drained down and have a look at the strainer. If it’s dirty/blocked it will need cleaning (along with the tank too really)

No need to spend weeks researching the part IMHO :)

The one I linked to from SL shop looked like it would fit though, if you really want a brand new one.

Are you selling the car or keeping it?

Well i am 80 and things are getting out of my reach .So yes , sometime this year it will be going . But i said this for the last 2 years --who knows .I had the idear to do just as you said, and just replace the hose to the strainer . The guy who came to replace the fuel pumps said, he was afraid to clamp the hose because it looked fragile ,so he plugged it . .And he may have clamped the hose to stop the fuel exiting the tank...i dont know for sure how he did this .But the hoes must be poor .condition now . And to clean the filter, i think it would be best to replace the hose to strainer.

Ray will do my friend clean it i will ...haveing problem now finding a new hose from the strainerto pum , i might be toast , so at the moment i am on the seartch for one of them

Here are some pics from when I changed the strainer in my W124 E250D , this was the late reg Indian assembled car that I acquired .

I removed some photos as they were near duplicates of others , Please note that my strainer , while for a Diesel car , had a 123 part number , and this was the one supplied against the chassis number by M-B Glasgow . It may be worth calling around a few dealers , especially those specialising in Classic Cars , like M-B Poole , to see if they have any in stock .

I had to buy the large socket from my local Halfords to get the strainer out , and fit the new one , it was , from memory , something like 45mm . I loaned it to a friend to do the same job and never got it back , same with numerous other tools , so I no longer lend to him .

To be fair Derek I think even that one would have cleaned up too? :)

Maybe if you can get the hose union to unscrew from the old tank strainer , you could take the old hose to a hydraulic shop and get them to fit a length of new hose onto the existing union ? Or if you're going to clean the old strainer , you could just take it in still together and just get a new length of hose put on ? You can see from my photo it only needs to be about a foot long .

Quite possibly , but that was about 10 years ago and the parts were readily available then ; I can't recall what I paid , but I don't think it was all that much .

That car had lain about a year before I got it , and had caught the Diesel bug !

I stuffed the nozzle of a steam cleaner into the tank strainer hole and gave it a blast through , then filled full of fresh Diesel , no further problems .

Good job Eric ..wish i coould get my car up on ramps ..did you find it difficult to reach up to do it ..i will look in to the information you laft for me .. i am sure i have a stubby socket .I purchased one to change the sender unit in the tank it migh be the same size have a good GOOD EASTER all of you Trev

It was quite easy to reverse up onto those ramps , and chock the front wheels ( since replaced with new ones where the platform can be further raised by a hydraulic bottle jack underneath , then lock pins inserted ) , even those ones left me plenty room to get my jerrycan under the strainer , and pop the disconnected hose in to drain the last of the fuel ) .

While I was then in my late 50s , I found it easy enough to roll under on my car creeper and the underside was just at a comfortable height to work in there .

Happy Easter to you too !

Since I was sold a strainer with a 123 part number , I looked up the EPC for a strainer for a W123 280E , which is about the closest model in that range to a 260E , and it came back with A 201 470 04 06 , which is one digit away from the number you have , also the seal ring , which is a separate part , A 110 997 01 45 .

The above items on this page

For the hose , it is on the page below , but is A 123 470 08 75 ; this is the hose from the tank strainer to what they call the damper cage , but looks roughly equivalent .

These items may not be available either , but no harm in looking . Sometimes you need to look outside the box !
