Managed to put 20 litres of petrol in my 2001 E320 CDI yesterday, must have been the sun :wallbash:. Drove the car for about 20 miles and it drives fine but didn't realise anything was wrong until it kept cranking when trying to start it but would eventually fire up. Called the petrol station and they confirmed I had put unleaded in.

What is the best course of action?
- call the RAC out to drain the tank
- fill it up with diesel and go for a drive and keep topping it up

Thanks

Go to a car park & drive like crazy high revs till your car is near empty then replace with diesel

Suck it out from the filter feed pipe and replace the fuel filter. Fill it with diesel and pump it through.

Thanks, I'll go the drain route. Is the fuel filter on a 2001 model a filter or canister jobby?

It's probably a paper element.

Good luck mate, I did the same foolish thing last Saturday, Green Flag agents drained fuel from filter supply & then sucked most of teh waste fuel from the sender aperture under the back seat.

Car is running fine BUT!!!! the needle on the fuel gauge has remembered the amount of fuel in the tank before the drain, I think the correct term is 'Keep on Memory' (KAM) & you may need the star to clear Olly could you advise ?

Can anyone recommend a mobile specialist that drains fuel in the south Essex area? Don't fancy being fleeced by RAC if I can help it.
