'98(R) Silver C240 Elegance
Well i went to see the beautiful silver C240 I mentioned in an earlier thread and bought it! Will pick up next Friday so really excited now!!! :bannana:
It was well worth a 500 mile round trip today!

Here goes:

C240 Elegance in silver with black ventilated and ruffled leather interior, foldy mirrors, puddle lights, heated seats and all the usual Elegance refinements. 83k, one owner, full history even down to trips to the stealer for screenwash!! Seller agreed to fully service the car and change the spark plugs (hehe knew that was coming up at 100k thanks to the forum). 12 months tax, 12 months Mot, RAC five star 12 month warranty all for £6500

Thanks for all your help answering my daft questions over the last year. Now i won't be to ashamed to come to a GTG!!! :D

Will post a pic if someone could help me...?

Congrats - sounds great :D

There's a HOWTO for posting pictures in the HOWTO section :)

Sounds like an excellent car, and a fair price! :)

I am glad you are happy, just enjoy driving it now!

Good trick getting the plugs changed!

Enjoy,

Enjoy that lovely v6 motor; it can purr like a pussycat or howl like a banshee. Simply select your desired mode using the throttle pedal :D

Thanks all, Friday afternoon can't come soon enough! WIll be the longest train journey ever! I feel like a small child on Christmas eve!!! :D

Well i have the car now, and have already done 600 miles comoing back from "oop narth" and generally driving about for a weekend with as little excuse as possible! Lovely; haven't got up early to enjoy a car since i was about 18!!!

I only had one minor disappointment, which was a REALLY annoying rattle from the back somewhere  (had assumed it was the trade plates!), but a friend was sure it was coming from the third brake light. Turned out there was a plastic part that should hold a metal bracket that was missing, hence the bracket was rattling around inside! All fixed now!! :bannana:

I was absolutely astounded by the economy of the beast. Dealer filled it at Crewe, and i drove it to Blackpool, ranted around there all weekend, then frove back to Maidstone. Not knowing how quickly it would drop from 3/8ths i filled up at a service station on the way and it would only accept 43 litres. Thing is i'd been 350 miles already!!!!! That meant 36.9 to the gallon!!!! :bannana: fantastic!!!! :)

Over the next 110 miles home the gauge didn't move!!
This was doing a steady 80 on the CC though. Don't know what it's like faster than that.

One question though: the gauge settles quite a lot lower if you park up for a while, maybe 1/8th of a tank. Which then is the true value? This could be dodgy on a long run where the gauge says 1/4 when you really have a lot less than that.

Is it true that the gearbox controller recognises different keys, and thus adapts its driving style accordingly? How much is it to get a new Electronic key? Would like a new unmarked one with a chrome star instead of my shabby black all over ones. Also the part that comes out with the emergency key is getting loose so replacement needed really.

Fantastic car. Wish I had had one years ago!!

The gearbox reconises your driver/driving style, not the key. So if your in a hurry it will change up later. I've read stories on here where peeps have been driving on the continent for a day or so. Then got back to the UK and for the first few miles the gearbox was holding onto the revs longer.
A new Electronic key cost me about £56 2 years back. The new ones are smaller and neater with the Mercedes Logo on the back in silver, so I'd say its worthwhile buying one.

My last C Class and current E Class both do this with the guage, but you should notice the guage rise slightly to where it was prior to stopping after 10mins or so, at least thats what mine does.
