Not a fair test at all!
Obvious hell bent on get getting the point across, but I reckon the smaller car would have made reasonable progress even with standard tyres. A light car with thin tyres, a manual gearbox and no doubt a puny engine. As opposed to the large car with great big fat (wide) low profile 19's, straight into first gear (you are best starting in 2nd in snow) and huge wheel-spinning torque.

Yes, needs to be done with identical cars to be valid. Actually, he did say they were identical cars, then in the next sentence said one was a 1 series and the other was a 6 series. 
Maybe he meant to say that they had identical wheels?
Interesting how he called them winter (or cold weather) tyres, not snow tyres. He said they are better when the temperature is under 7C.

Having driven a 1 series on snow, I found its performance in this test unbelievablely good. However it is the worst car I have ever driven on snow and I still think that even with cold weather tyres it was a relatively poor performance.
I don't know which tyres were used, but the commentator did say they were "all weather" rather than full "winter" tyres. This might explain the still fairly poor traction.
Surely a big tyre manufacturer good knock together a video demonstrating the benefits of their winter tyres? Its a perfect time for them, but perhaps they have sold out?
Searching the net I did find some good videos from countries that manage to cope with the snow a lot better than we do. If we all had winter tyres fitted from Novemeber 1st by law, then we would still have been getting about rather than being laughed at by the Americans and the rest of northern Europe.
