Lease deals v keep current car - advice please

update from OP: some great advice and opinions - thanks guys. I'm probably erring on the side of keeping the BMW for a bit longer and ploughing the cash saved into the mortgage. I'm still tempted by some these deals, but someone questioned whether a 4 pot diesel would be satisfactory...

Lease deals v keep current car - advice please

This is it!!! nothing wrong with BMW, great car and economical for 3.0 petrol 23 -34mpg avg. Never had a brand new car of my own before, hence the lure of a new lease merc for £50 more per month than my just paid off loan (£250/month). Keeping the BMW may cost me little more than petrol...

Lease deals v keep current car - advice please

Guys, I'm looking for some informed and sound advice based on peoples experience of lease deals v own a car. Apologies in advance for the long post - but I think background & detail is important. Here's the scenario: I currently have a 2007 petrol BMW* 525i (3.0) which is paid off this...

MAF could be another cause. Not sure if there is a defined test to confirm it though.

    Most unreliable car ???

for me, after 30-ish cars, by no means as bad or unreliable as some of the other stories here - it has to be 203 C200 CDi. After less than 4 weeks the turbo and 2 injectors went, never had a £1200+ repair on any car in 22 years of owning cars. Still love the car, but always have a horrible...

    C200 cdi 2004 mpg

similar to mine then. with regards to exhaust you could have a DPF. mine has, and these can contribute to a lesser avg mpg than non-DPF cars.

    C200 cdi 2004 mpg

looks like there are a few of us in the same boat - low 30s in town 40ish on the motorway. I'm getting between 36 and 38mpg tank to tank. these are my imporved figures since changing the thermostat, also changed 2 injectors and the turbo. MAF is the only bit left for me to change but been...

Low volume on iPod, UMI installed

thanks Jim - I think thats the issue - I have a W203 CDi 2005 with Audio 20, I dont think I have the UMI, and definitely no buttons on the centre console between the seats (other than the C/S mode for the auto box)

Low volume on iPod, UMI installed

does this only apply to vehicles with the command system? My Audio 20 doesn't have the buttons listed above :dk: is there another sequence for the basic Audio 20 using the aux port?

    Audio 20 Aux Lead Retrofit

here's what i did for my MP3 player - purchased AUX - 3.5mm jack lead from ebay (£15) hooked up to audio 20, then ran lead up centre console trim past gear stick and up through cup holder. Plug in MP3 and hey presto. To activate AUX you need to keep the CDC button pressed down for approx 5...

    W203 problems?

not sure on the petrol models specifically, but I'd guess a starting point is checking the plug (knackered?), HT lead (shorting?) and coil pack (dropping voltage? over heating?) for cylinder 3.

    Air mass maf sensor

interesting, my figures are similar to your original ones after changing the thermostat, also changed 2 injectors and the turbo. MAF is the only bit left for me to change but been holding back due to the cost/lack of guarentee it will increase mpg thinking i'll probably just go for it

    MAF Query

I'm kinda with you on that one! Your story is similar to mine - poor economy around town (high 20's low 30's) gentle motorway driving gets around 36 - 39 at a push, seen 40 once! Brim to brim best is 36mpg. So far i have spent over £1300 on new turbo, 2 injectors, thermostat and various...
