if I put a 4 speed gearbox/prop into a car which originally was fitted with a 5 speed box ..does the diff need to changed,rumour has it they are different ratios, what is the impact on the gearing good or bad ? does it need to be changed any comments gratefully received thanks mark

There seems to be a shortage of decent diffs for W201's so I was wondering if something else would be a direct replacement. I suppose most could live with the diff noise but it is detracting from what is otherwise a little gem. Has anyone looked into this before and got some insight?
