whining

Hi has anyone had this issue? Mine comes and goes but also changes with acceleration. Is it the fan? If I turn off the climate control the noise goes away so I presume it's the blower fan?

I have a mate with an 02 C220 cdi which has a whining diff, when he bought it, it had a diff oil leak so he replaced all the seals.. However over time it's started to whine badly.... So does he just replace the diff, complete axle (from a breakers) or what?? Advice please... Cheers
