Ive been offered an e55k MB for 15k which seems a fair price but its done 120k...one company owner and has FMBSH.....before i dive in what should i look for and what are the main fail points/isues.

Also ill be going from a S320 CDI to this as my daily driver so what should i expect...i know fuel will be an issue but how much more, i do around 30 miles a day.

also point to note im 29 and got a quote from privilege for £389 fully comp not bad! case anyone was looking to insure somthing similar.

Look forward to hearing owners/ex-owners/enthusiasts responses.

That insurance seems cheap.
I have full NCB and pay that for a N/A E55:crazy:
Plus I'm 10 yrs older.

yeh thats what i thought...although esure offered to insure me for £50 more till my policy expires in Nov so i may go for that one till then, thats if i go for it.

Maye helped my last car was an S55?

I envy you getting the 55, but single 15 mile journies will see fuel disappearing at an alarming rate ;) (30 mile a day, I'm guessing 15 miles x 2)

Good luck with the car.

Regards
John

yeh thats what i was wondering....

i dont mind spending on cars, especially on the fuel side of things but i was hoping to find out from perhaps owners of the e55k what they got on ave mpg urban?

What you guys think of the cars milage? I recall having shed loads of trouble with my S320CDI which had done simlar milage?

Can superchargers go? apart from spaller issues like MAF etc what major concerns should i have with this vehicle considering the milage? Body wise i'd hope it would be covered under Mobilo (as was my last merc) as the car has FMBSH

Buy Grav's E55!

A known good car and a trustworthy seller

(I don't think he actually wants to sell it!)

:bannana:

In all seriousness, if you are in the market for that kind of car I'd highly recommend you take a look. A number of people on this forum will vouch for it (and for Grav - we know where he works  )

I don't really, but it has to go and when it comes out of the bodyshop, it will have new panels and be nice and shiny:D
(Not an accident, but warranty claim;) )

Oi, hands off :D. Just waiting for my Lottery win:rolleyes:

Seriously, Grav's car is awesome. Best bit of metal you are ever going to get at the price he is asking. Just my opinion based on having driven it.........quite a bit :D:devil:

Your going to hear lots of figures but Mercedes claim 14mpg city driving but you will have a cold engine and probably a fair bit of stop start motoring so it might be even less!!!!

The good news is I am quoting the estate car consumption so the saloon might be different.

Grav's very nice car is the previous 210 which is a different beast :)

14.1 City
28.8 EDC
20.8 Overall

0-62.5mph 4.8sec

Don't forget this is the estate but there is NOT much difference :)

John

Car looks fantastic, but im after the facelifted Kompressor model...a good or bad idea i dont know yet ;)

Hello my ex bos has a 2004 E55 Estate and seems to get 14-16mpg everywhere.

He thought the novelty of pressing the go pedal would improve mpg...

but the novelty doesn't...

Given my dad gets 40mpg out of his 2003 E320Cdi Estate without thinking nad recently over 50mpg then the E55 will like its drink.

:)

Sorry about that and hopefully an extremely light foot might improve those figures. The reality is........ You will be hard pressed to really take advantage of that beautiful engine!! Yes it will go like stink, but leaping away from the treaffic lights might look impressive but everyone will still catch you up at the next set :o :o :o

I'm a huge AMG fan and will never criticise this model but you must have your eyes wide open when buying one.

The instant you hear that singing AMG engine you can watch the fuel guage accelerate into motion.

Nope i completley know where your coming from John, truth is i really love mercs especially this particular model but im trying to also think where and when i can exploit this power in the real world, like you said blitzing traffic lights would not be a real reason to get such a car....god damn UK!!!

Am i destined for a diesel again then.....

Superchargers can often be written off if the bearing goes. AMG tuning in the US has mushroomed as a growing number of the supercharged engines are out of warranty now.

With it has come increased availability of suitable bearings. They were always available, just that nobody ever bothered as the solution offered by warranty was to swap the entire supercharger - not just the bearing. Out of warranty people were looking for cheaper repairs!!

Beyond that watch for glycol contamination in transmission (due to poorly designed radiators manufactured by Valeo, on cars built prior to Sep 03). A quick search on this forum will reveal more.

The biggest concern I'd have on a car of this mileage is replacement of items such as brakes, and suspension. Not sure whether the air suspension will need attention with so many miles.

Finally, I don't think the E55K has a MAF sensor, so at least that's one thing you won't need to worry about!!

thanks for this post i bear this in mind.

I had a similar issue with my 03 S class a year back.

As an E55 owner let me state that if your worried about fuel consumption the the 55 is not for you, mine sits in a garage 6 days a week and may come out on a sunday if the weather is nice.

15k is very cheap for an E55 but one thing really worries me and its the high miles, 120,000 is an aweful lot for a 2003 car, if you can budget a little more and go for a 50/60k mile car then you will not need to worry about a thing, apart from what Rob stated about the valeo rads,MB are aware of this prob so they shoud assist if required.

BTW if you buy an ///AMG you'll never look back........ literally.:D

hello, still contemplating....

Its now either an E55K or wait for it a 535d M Sport....i know i know.

I really want to go for the benz, i really do but im not 100% sure yet.

Ive actually agreed £18.5k on a 60k 04 model with full options but havent signed the line yet.

I drive about 5-7k miles per annum and dont need to use the car as a daily driver but saying that im not wanting to pay nearly 20k for a car to have it lie around.

decisions, decisions.....would i really only be looking at 10mpg driving below 2000prm about the city?

its a head and heart decision.....help!
