CLK220 CDI
I am a new member so first of all hello to all, and hopefully this is the right place to post my query.

I bought an 06 CLK 220 CDI (auto) at the weekend and I'm over the moon with it, apart from the trip computer claims it is only averaging 23mpg round the doors. I know its a relatively heavy car, but does it seem like something is wrong? Or is it just because at 150bhp it is completely underpowered for its weight?

If that's the case can anyone recommend a good remap or other advice to get a better mpg? I don't really do any motorway driving and work is only 4 miles away so it doesn't get much of a chance to warm up either.

Thanks in advance!

Al.

Welcome to the forum, your in the right place to get any help like this.
My previous CLk was a 2.7 diesel an did a average of around 26 - 32 mpg but I put this down to the short journeys I do and soon realised I should have got a petrol engined one which I have now.
23 mph seems very low, are your journeys long or short as the deisel engines take about 10 miles to warm up.
You will get the best mpg when the engine is fully warmed up so make sure you have a good bit of heat out the heater, or it could be running cold which means a new thermostat in your cooling system.

Congrats on your purchase!

Seems about right for a cold 4 mile trip... the car doesn't get a chance to warm up at all, or even if you do warm it, you've burnt fuel without doing any miles, so the trip wouldn't be showing anything good ;)

Real way to tell if something is wrong in terms of fuel economy is to take it on a good long trip, if it's still doing 23mpg over a 50 mile trip, then there's something wrong.

Thanks for the replies! Its only 4 miles to work so it probably never gets a chance to warm up properly, especially given how cold it is at the minute! I thought it might have been a bit more economical than that mind, since i reset the computer its been averaging 25 mpg which is pretty poor really. Its also pretty slow, I had a volvo s60 D5 auto which was considerably quicker and still did 35 round the doors (albeit in a lot less comfort or style!). I will take it on a bit of a run at the weekend and see how it goes. Are there any decent remaps for that engine that might help? Was going to go for the 320CDi at first because i thought the 220 Cdi might be underpowered, or would that have been considerably worse? Was also considering the convertible version but as they didn't do it in diesel i thought it would guzzle the juice? How are yours on the fuel?

I am very pleased with mine and does around 25mpg, but for a 3.5ltr don't think that is to bad considering the power it has, which is ample for me.
I travel 9 miles each way too work so find petrol suits me fine, and it's cheaper!

Thats pretty good for a heavy motor! Maybe I should have got a petrol for round the doors. Managed a decent 36 on the way home tonight with no traffic on the road which is more like it! If i could find a remap or something to improve on that then I would definitely get it done i think
