16year old killed in hit and run -trace this car

it's hard to understand why a driver would leave the accident, but some people are not mentaly strong enough to cope with what they have done.the family on both sides have now got to come to terms with this tragic event.

I wonder if it would be possible , whenever a driver is banned , for DVLA to put a 'marker' on any vehicle registered to that person , or to their address ?

That way it would be flagged up by ANPR and police could stop the vehicle and check whether it was the banned driver at the wheel .

Even if it only picked up a percentage of banned drivers it would be a start .

But that would mean that anyone who carried on using the family car or who lived at the same address as a banned driver would risk getting pulled over every few days. If the guilty person had a 2 or 3 year ban then that would quickly become extremely tedious for a lot of innocent drivers.

That's exactly what happens.

Indeed , however I guess the local cops will soon get to know that it was Mr Bloggs who was banned .......... and that looks like a woman driving , oh yes it's Mrs Bloggs .

Still the lesser of two evils , and if Mr Bloggs suffers the wrath of Mrs Bloggs following every time she gets stopped - so much more the deterrent and so much the better .

It's not uncommon for individuals to be banned for many years but it doesn't always stop them from driving, even after a spell in prison.

Amputation of the right foot for persistent offenders might slow down their driving ambitions :D

Watching some of the 'Cops and Robbers' shows on channel 1435273796 or thereabouts I'm not surprised that so many people drive without any of the requirements like licence or insurance. The penalties imposed are laughable. When it costs a teenager over £2000 to insure a £500 car is it any wonder some of them risk a £200 fine and six points? As for imposing a further ban on someone who has already shown their contempt for the current one, what's the point?

But it's not just Mrs Bloggs who will suffer. Those renting a room from a friend, those living in homes of multiple occupation, those in student halls of residence etc. would also find themselves being constantly pulled over particularly if they are the same gender / age profile as the banned driver.

If a banned driver is caught driving let them spend the remainder of the ban in prison, that should prevent any re-occurrence. Make that widely known and perhaps more adherence will be observed.

I find it incredible how all threads seem to degenerate into pathetic "Yar-Boo" frenzies about hurting people.

Daily Wail, here we come...

I dont see anyone on that list that i particularly think i'm worried about.

I'd like to think the police are a little bit smarter than that.

They would spend all their time stopping law abiding people, while the criminal drives around in a car registered in another name and address, knowing the resources are tied up looking elsewhere.
