I'm advertising this on behalf of a lifelong friend who needs a car more suitable for his growing family. This is the first place the car has been advertised.
I helped him find this car in 2005 after he asked me what interesting older Mercs I'd suggest for him to consider instead of buying a modern box that would depreciate to nothing in 5 or 6 years time. He lives in Central London & wouldn't be driving much so I suggested a late, pampered SEC with history, the big engine, the most options, in a colour he liked, in the best condition he could find.
We searched for about 4 months & went to see about twenty 500 & 560 SECs on the market at that time. We looked at private & trade sellers & bought this privately. This was the best we could find by a long way & was better than some of the cars at specialists which were thousands more expensive. We learned there're a lot of bad cars at high prices on the market.
This is a late 560 SEC in Pearl Grey with black leather & burr walnut, first registered January 4, 1991. It's had a total of 5 owners (4 POs on the V5), the last buying it in February 2005 when the mileage was 110K. It is currently 133K.
It has all the usual comprehensive standard 560 SEC equipment as well as some important, desirable & expensive options:
Acceleration skid control (ASR)
Driver's airbag (SRS)
Fire extinguisher
Town & Country 2 tone horn
Orthopaedic driver's backrest
Roller blind on rear screen
2 x Memory front seats
Sump shield (he thinks, I don't remember)
It has mainly MB service history for the first 14 years or so & then independents - receipts & stamped book. Under my friend's ownership it has been serviced on schedule once a year regardless of the mileage driven & he has all those records. it's always been owned by affluent older drivers, never been modded, never been ragged, never owned by someone uncaring & unsympathic who couldn't afford to look after it. The current MOT is good until March 2011 & unusually he also has all the old MOTs. It's just been taxed for 6 months.
This is an honest car in un-tarted up condition. It drives beautifully, silent & fast & has always been 100% reliable. I'd get in it & drive to Moscow today without doing anything to it at all. It's suffering from the usual SEC wing & bumper rust & has a couple of surface rust spots developing elsewhere. It's in an ageless, grown up colour scheme & with new wings, bumpers & a little TLC would make someone a really lovely classic.
It comes with the Owners Manual pack, two keys & two alarm blippers & a CD workshop manual.
I can email a photo file of more & larger images, supply the the VIN, answer any questions or arrange a time to see it if you contact me by PM with an email address.
Located in Pimlico, London, SW1
Asking £3,650.
