Hi guys!

Whilst driving around town today, my front and rear parking sensor indicators started making the loud klaxon sound as if I'd reached the limit of my parking distance. Only the last two red indicators were lit on both the dashboard mounted indicators and the rear indicators mounted on the celing above the passenger seats.

Switching off the ignition and waiting a few minutes seemed to reset them and all was well until I needed to park in a tight space, as I was reversing they suddenly "klaxoned" and stopped working, displaying the two red indicators as above.

I checked around the bumpers rear and front and noticed some "bumper scuff" at both ends which easily T-Cut back but could this have done some damage? Crawled underneath as best I could in a suit but both bumpers appear to be sealed units.

I can disable the sensors via the switch on the centre console but once up to motorway speeds the red light indicating their off status resets and when I slow again the sensors are activated, sometimes with no klaxon sound and other times there is.

Ideas of where to start looking would be greatly appreciated!

I had the same problem after hitting a pheasant lately. Likely one of your sensors is damaged or faulty. I had mine replaced but the fault has recurred so need to take it back in to the garage again.

Not sure about the CLK but I know that to get to the sensors on mine means removing the bumper. The bumpers won't be sealed but will likely have a number of hidden fixings

Is it cold enough for ice to have formed on the sensors? Ours went crazy on the SLK a few days ago. Turned out to be just some frozen water on the surface - not snow.

Ditto on the last post with me last week.
Snow and ice caused them to act very erratically.

Oh, and I forgot you can turn them off to stop them annoying you!

Have same problem on SL - asked garage about it and they said it's because just one of the sensors on the front is slightly cracked from stone chip. He quouted me to fix it -once I had picked myself up off the floor I decided that, as it's only intermittant on mine, that I could put up with it...

Clean the sensors. Dirt will also make them do this - particularly this time of year.

What did they quote out of interest? I paid £83 for new sensor including painting and fitting.

It was about a year ago, but I'm sure it was more like £120 just for the sensor and then an hours labour on top to fit it at a main dealer - I think the SL service had already cost me £1,400.00 (water pump change) so that was a hammer blow too far...
