Just wondering why these are so cheap at the moment & many of them not selling for strong money. The E30 M3's seemed to have broken this trend & making good money now, I wonder how long or if the Cosworths will do the same ?

No where near the same interest or legend status as an M3 E30.

MB's report card would have said 'Must try harder' when it came to the 190E Cosworth, and that is why it's current status, and therefore values are poor. All IMO of course.

The good ones are still going for good money

My friend has just bought a 1989 Cosworth with 180k on the clock, full black leather, full MOT and a stack of history for £2k! In the best colour as well- blue/black

Thats exactly my point, that is a very cheap car......I am convinced they will go up, maybe never to an M3 E30 money but way more than they are now ?

I would agree with your statement, I think in 5-10 years time, when there are only the mint ones left, you will see a marked rise in values. But for the meantime, they are an absolute steal!:thumb:

The 2.3 and 2.5 are more like the 3 series
Try evoI and evoII if you like to compare prices to the M3 :D

You wont find any decent mileage or tidy examples going cheap. Decent ones are fetching well above 5K.

Of course a high mileage or rusty car will fetch nowhere near that.

I have got the chance on a 2.5 blue / Black 5 owner car, with 140k massive history file, no rust, (but a few supermarket dents ) refurbished wheels & nice trim for 2k ?.......seems to good opportunity to turn down.

But even that is cheap for like these though, dont you agree ?......I mean what else can you get for 5 k thats as good ?

As with any cars, it's down to a case of supply and demand.

E30 M3s have a massive following and attract very strong money for what they are.

The values for clean, low mileage and original 190E 2.3/2.5-16s have been climbing for some time, and the gap between the very best cars and the tatty ones has widened over the years. They are still fantastic cars and great buys at the moment - a nice example looked after will surely appreciate in years to come.

All I will add though is that although some of these cars appear temptingly cheap, proceed with caution - most people who have these cars know what they are - there's often a reason (or few..). Not all parts/repairs are as cheap as you'd think - that's why the nice ones are worth £5-10k and tatty ones can be bought for a couple of thousand ;)

If its a manual then yes, id snap it up... If Auto then no, as these dont really fetch a lot.

if it really is nice, you could sell it and make some cash on it..

However be careful, the one I bought recently was pretty much mint but ive managed to spent a couple of K making my version of mint!

Too many 16v's used as dailies (overengineered) unlike the M3 E30

Within 5 to 10 years when they become as rare as the M3, even the rustbuckets will be fetching 5k + and the minters with history on a par with the E30 if not more.

Drive an E30 M3 and a 190 Cosworth back to back and you'll see why the M3 is much more expensive. I've owned both so feel qualified to comment.

Don`t understand why you guys still compare the 2.3 and 2.5 16Vs with M3s
Compare the M3s with the 190 EVOs,performance and price wise

Perhaps because they're both the result of Touring Car racing homologation, and so competed on the track?

Part of the issue is that some of the parts are very expensive. I've driven quite a few over the years and all but the very best have a whiny diff. A simple fault like that can exceed the value of the car. The cars then get driven into the ground. I looked at one for a friend a few years back. The thing had been so bodged about by a succession of skint owners looking for bargain basement performance that it was bloody lethal.

I think the main issue is that they're very misunderstood cars. People expect them to like a Sierra Cosworth because of the badge, and when that expectation isn't fulfilled walk away disappointed. Equally people who'd actually enjoy the car for what it is don't try it for essentially the same reason.

M3's also come in Evo I, Evo II, and Sport Evolution versions, so perfectly feasable to compare a normal E30 M3 with a normal 190E Cosworth 2.3 or 2.5.

Difference between the two is that the E30 M3 looks and feels special in every way, whereas the W201 Cosworth feels (and looks) like a regular body kitted 190E with a good engine in it.
