2000 CLK55 at Mercland

Can I ask what MPG you're getting? I have a daily 75 mile round trip commute and am currently getting about 28 from my 320 (although I suspect the MAF is fubar'd as acceleration is dire). I have a 55 AMG itch that just needs to be scratched! (but complain enough about 28mpg :0)

Trust me, get a 55 now you could easily get 27-28mpg on the motorway if you drive carefully at 70ish. I get 25-26mpg on my E55 AMG and thats normal driving not granny yet not mad!

I once had 29mpg out of my e55 but that was locked on 55-60mph for 30miles had half a tank of petrol and just me in the car and was really careful.

I'm surprised at the high mpg I can achieve on the E55 but maybe thats to do with the re-map. The only thing I dont really like about the E55 is it's small tank of 285miles for a full tank, but the power/torque just makes you forget about mpg and petrol etc..

Just do it, you will have few regrets and you will notice only a marginal reduction in fuel costs.

I completely agree. I was amazed to get 31mpg on the OBC on the first long motorway run I did in the '55 shortly after I got it. Although the OBC may overread very slightly it is still impressive given that I wasn't hanging around. Around town the mpg is not good (low 20's) but I don't do much urban driving. My twice weekly 40 mile commute (motorway/fast A roads) gives me about 29mpg.

At the end of the day people have choice,

You could buy a 100K mile CLK from a very respectable private seller and maybe pay a tad less.

Or you could buy one from a reputable car dealer and have all the facilities that come with it.

I think if I were looking at an AMG car with all the extras and large engine then my money would be on the dealer car for piece of mind.

I also know from previous car hunting private peoples understanding of excellent condition is not mine. At least at a dealer you can push for some body work, new tyres, etc etc

CHOICE that's the key. you pay's your money and YOU make your choice. Looking art Jays cars for sale they always look clean and tidy and lets be honest if anyone looks every now and again THEY DO sell

:)

Hmm ..... interesting. I tend to drive on the motorway at 80-85, could mpg go up then? ;)

Thanks for the info :thumb:

Yikes

Accepting that we all have different driving styles, how many miles out of a tank do you get? I range from 310 to 340.

To be honest I rarely fill the car right up, but when I have done the occasional long journey I guess I get about 350 miles or so from a tank, although can't swear to that.

the CLK55 is really quite fuel efficient on the motorway.

I used to drive from central London to Newquay, about 300 miles, and get about 27 mpg .. and this is with some spirited driving on the A30.

If you don't accelerate hard to feel the surge and hear the V8 roar (but then what's the point of an AMG!), you can achieve late 20s or 30 mpg on the motorway.

and in the worst central london traffic? 12-14 ish?

I don't understand why people talk about MPG when talking about AMG V8's.
If you worry about MPG, its not for you. If you don't worry about MPG and just fill up when it needs it, then get one you won't regret it:D

Ok , mines not an AMG , but its a V8 , but i just got 29.8 combined for 510 miles round trip to Cornwall and back ....

Cruising at 85/90 ish with an occasional jolly off a roundabout .... so i can live with just under 30 MPG

I don't worry about MPG , i just love the noise , that's what a V8 is all about.

Mine isn't a V8, Sports or AMG but even my Bus makes a great sound (3.7 V6). Fuel is anywhere between cough cough 16ish and 28

The way I see it almost anything I swap it for will be as economical when I do...

I usually fill up on 3/4's and too be honest too me its no more to run than my 330ci vert that it replaced.

Hmm, well I disagree with that. If I had a 10 mile commute, then sure, it wouldn't really concern me. But, as already said, I have a 75 mile daily commute so MPG of course, is going to be on my agenda and something for me to worry about.

Does that mean I don't want the power or the noise of an AMG V8? Of course not. Asking questions about the MPG owners get is perfectly reasonable. What if an E95AMG (coming next year, hush, hush) only got 15 mpg on a run, and 5 in town, would that warrant someone asking about mpg?

I'm really just trying to justify one to myself! :D

75 miles thats some commute wouldnt you be better with a diesel of some description ie any vw and get over 60mpg?

I guess it depends what you are going to use the car for. If it's going to be a weekend car then don't worry. If you are going to use it as a daily driver/commute etc then maybe you should think again but it all boils down to your running budget, after all, we are all broke, just on different levels! :thumb:
