2000 CLK55 at Mercland

Because;

A: Its a dealers car
B: Will have a warrentee
C: Will have full history
D: The purchaser will have comback
E: The seller may offer flexable payment plans (finance, Credit Card etc)
F: Coupe's are worth alot more that saloons.
G: It has under 100k which is a mental line for many for buyers
H: It would have had a full check over before sale
I: A full valet would have been done
J: Any bodywork imperfections may have been attended to

Shall I go on?

The only thing relevant in that list is A: It's a dealers car. And we all know what that means, they think they can charge what they want and rip Joe public off! £10K for that car is way over the odds even if it is a coupe!

Just to clarify, this is not a personal attack on the seller, I'm sure he is a very reputable dealer, but I have had so many dealings with car dealers in the past, they always want top dollar for their car and always bid you in the nuts for yours!

Cars like the CLK 55 AMG are also available from private sellers.
So ultimately market forces will dictate the private/dealer value of these cars.

If thats the case then why are dealers still in business.....bit of a sweeping statement saying they are all rip off merchants. I think I would rather pay a premium and know that if it goes wrong in a major way that I can get recourse to the seller. You will also tend to find that if its coming with a half way decent warranty, the warranty can only be offered if the cars got good service history and is not overdue a service......not something that you would get buying privately

You will tend to find that a lot of people who like Merc's like buying them from a Merc specialist, so my guess, is that it will sell and looking at the others for sale on Autotrader its not taking the Pi** on price either.

Spot on. At the end of the day you know if Jays selling it its not going to be a Lemon.

Thats the one...

good cars are difficult to find and prices have gone up hugely recently.

Can't agree enough, and with the cheaper market that I deal in, the scrappage scheme is taking good cars off the road. Friend in the trade advised me of a customer who exchanged a 32k from new Corsa, like them or loathe them they are gold dust in the trade and this one has been scrapped. When the customer was asked why he was scrapping it he told them that "it was worth more that way", sad indicment on this whole "scheme". Interesting to see the same main dealers who were crying out for business three months ago are now turning customers away as they can't get enough s**tbox Hyundai I10's and Kia Picanto's to meet demand.

Back to the subject matter though as a "trader" will provide all the back up that a private sale will not and will naturally have to make profit on the vehicle otherwise what would be the point in being the business. If someone wants to buy a "cheaper" private car then so be it, but if someone wants piece of mind (especially with specialist cars like Merc's) then they will pay the slight premium that goes with it. As mentioned Jay's prices are competitive and no doubt he's struggling to get decent stock at the moment so will be having to pay a premium for good quality vehicles.

The traders that do take the p**s are the ones on eBay that demand £6k for "questionable" SEC's with very patchy Service History, you know the one's we're talking about....his last car was discussed to death on here and hadn't met reserve at well over £5k!

I'm fully aware of the why's and wherefore's buying a car from a dealer, however my car for example has FULL MB history, not part and nearly 18 months remaining of a dealer warranty but still worth £4K less?

Regardless of the arguments of whether it's a good car, not a lemon, reputable dealer etc etc etc the fact remains that it is still way over priced for what it is IMHO. :)

Yours is a saloon... complete different car my friend, the CLK's are fewer between.

Also will you answer the phone when a buyer rings up and says the gearbox has blown up in a months time and expects full compensation - didnt think so.

Im not going to get into a debate about it as its no ones business but trust me I have only applied my normal margin taking into account the prep I have yet to do and the warranty supplied. For example the 6 month RAC warranty that will be supplied costs me almost £500 as this is classed as a special vehicle..

As always ill re assess my screen price once all prep and inspections are complete.

However, let me say, i dont just make up the prices, i do lots of research and compare with what else is out there - not counting private offerings.

If the car is still around in a couple of months, ill reduce to clear at cost....

thats really all i have to say on it..

So EDZ649 who valued yours at 5.6K? A dealer per chance. Jay is a great mate to all forum members. So if you know what he could be making, go see if you can get it for "mates rates" If you are in the market for buying that is. Anyone seen the car in the metal? Forum member talked a possible deal? Methinksnot. Think its too expensive? Just walk on by, its only an advert. Do I want to buy it - nah - way out of my leauge. Have a great weekend everyone, lets hope the weather holds.

Sorry guys was composing this while Jay put his post up re pricing.

Actually it wasn't a dealer who valued it, it was you guys! Anyway, like I said, just my opinion....;)

Price looks OK given this is a private sale. I always work on the basis of knocking 10% off of dealer prices anyway.

I saw that one the other day, looks like a very decent CLK55 - no sunroof though!

I think the folding mirrors were standard........could be wrong though

and now £8990

Nope they weren't. Always tell by the mssing button behind the airbag disabled warning light. There are two extra buttons, 1 for the retracting rear blind and one for the folding mirrors, both options.

I was refering to Pete's post when saying No Parktronic :)

Mine hasn't got rear blinds or folding mirrors....

Can I ask what MPG you're getting? I have a daily 75 mile round trip commute and am currently getting about 28 from my 320 (although I suspect the MAF is fubar'd as acceleration is dire). I have a 55 AMG itch that just needs to be scratched! (but complain enough about 28mpg :0)
