Does it crank?

Hi,
When i started it today no probs took it for a spin no probs parked outside the driveway and turned the engine off went back to put it on the driveway and all works apart from when you go to start her just nothing. All lights on the dash ok plenty of juice. noticed about a week ago had the engine on in park mode but could not move it out of park mode while engine working. Took the covers off from the auto stick and took out the SW cover but all is clean and dry.

Its a problem with the key and/or the EIS.

Clean the end of the key.

It will happen. Put the key in and out of the EIS until it works.

It may "think" that the car is in R or D so it wont let you start. What does the dash display show?

Use a pen in the little flap at the back of the gear lever to release out of P and then see if it will start.

Used the pen got it out of P mode hand put it in N mode (thanks for the tip for the future) still no engine start but all goes as it should even the key phob and EIS sounds but no engine start

Check all fuses next

Don't forgetthe fuses under the cover on the left hand side under the bonnet. You will need to unscrew the box. 4 philips screws.

Checked all fuses all ok just thinking know is it the EIS as all else shows ok

Done all the below mentioned even had jump leads from another motor just not turning over thinking its the key phob EIS houseing all works as normal and all clicks and electronic motions when you put the key into the houseing turn to no 1 position for glow plugs then go to start and nothing. Any thoughts

Under that cover with the philips screws there is a connector with a purple wire. Disconnect it and send 12V down it. It should turn over. If it does it will could be an ignition switch fault. It may not be so get it diagnosed properly with a Star.

The purple wire is quite thick. Quite a bit thicker than the others. The best thing to do is to post a pic up and I will tell you which one it is.

Thanks for your thoughts Olly

Will keep this item updated and hope it can be of use to others.

You have not checked all the fuses.

Remove the cover on the left side of the engine bay and check the fuses in there.

Thanks Olly

Will do been out in the town with the wife xmas stuff so not had a chance, once i took the video. Working blind as to no manuals and going with your thoughts. Will do this first thing in the morn. If it is not these fuses what would your thoughts be.

Thanks
Gary
