Hi new poster,

I just serviced my car filters oil etc, and was told the ATF needed changed I have the car 4 years and it never been, 125000 miles on it now there has been know trouble out of it I just change the gearbox filter
"a little ovel shaped one" put the sump back togeather also changed the plastic plug at the side as it looked like it was leaking,
now heres my problem acording to an oil manaul i have at work it takes atf dextron 3 oil and 7.3/8.2 liters now I put 7.5 liters down the dip stick started her up run for 5min then it started pissin out the top of the gear box I am assuming there is an over flow bung there so my question is have I to much oil in because 7.5 seems alot and is there an overflow bung at the top and if so do i need to repulg it.
Many thanks and help would be greatful, the car is stuck on the uncels ramp

Did you drain the torque converter , when the sump is drained only 3 to 3.5 litres will drain out , the rest has to be pumped from the torque converted , read Oillys how to .
Also has the car got a Valeo rad , if so this should be changed before it starts leaking coolent into the box .

I think you did not drain all the oil out and have over filled by quite a lot.

The correct method. Have a read through it.

Thank you guys I have done this twice the first time i didnt drain the converter so drainded it again opened the banjo started the engin and let her run for 5 min then put 7.5 liters back into it! now after reading ollies post I think I must drain it? then top up with 3L of atf, then open then banjo and run for 4 min? then hook up dignos to get 80c running temp and the put in the other 4L is this correct?
cheers

yes.. the hooking up to diagnostics is not essential.

If you dont have access to a STAR machine - take it for a good 20 min drive, getting the car up to full operating temperature and giving it a good run.

Then with the correct dipstick, while parked on level ground with the gear selector in P and engine running check the level.

cheers ill just drain it again tomorrow and start again did i do any damage with it overflowing from the top of the box?

Well overfilling can do damage but i think you've noticed it right away and are changing it again so i don't think you've done any damage. Unless its left like that and it is driven around quite a bit i dont think any damage will be caused.

good ill give it another try tomorrow and keep you posted thank you
